As fate would have it!

Yikes, why no spotters with a guy that is known to be inexperienced?

That guy backs up my theory that any wheeled vehicle's first mod should be a roll cage, you never know where disaster will strike...twice.

Interesting enough, the driver had driven both trails the year before on our "CH" trip without incident. The prior year in an old YJ that was every bit as top heavy as the lifted Cherokee.

As for spotting, I've wrestled with requiring drivers on the difficult trails to bring along a spotter or partner with another driver to spot each other. Ultimately, a driver is responsible for the line they take and calling out for help spotting if they need it.

Perhaps I need to hold a driver clinic and discuss, then practice the diciplines and theory of Balance and Traction.

Thanks,
Fred

Dump it once, well a bad line can happen... Dump it over twice same day, especially in that spot.... someone was looking to cash out on their insurance policy.

If it was a known difficult area then a spotter who knows the trail should have been there to help the less experienced instead of letting them fend for themselves. That would usually fall upon the Trail Guide. If it's a club run then someone should have been watching over him. Having him flop once is one thing but twice is a bit excessive. He was too green to know he was in way over his head.

blah blah blah, all this criticism like everyone else is so prefect. We are all human and all make mistakes (constantly) and none of us like others dogging on us but the internet makes it easy to do to others.

As for the XJ, tough to see one so banged up but thanks for sharing the story and pics. Gets kinda boring at times looking at these forums and seeing all the cup holder mods that people are doing. Nice to see some action!

There is a huge difference between being imperfect and having a huge lack of common sense....how many times have you rolled?

It's always nice to read these threads and see how others would have handled a situation after the fact. Life is a learning experience and if we all stayed home and critizied others for doing, we would never have learned the skills we have. Nothing teaches like doing....he now has flops in different situations under his belt...I bet he has learned and will take a different line next time.
