Optima batteries.

I had a RedTop in my last Jeep and it was in there and in perfect shape when I traded it in.

I ran two D31M BlueTops in my trailer and treated them worse than I care to admit ---- they were run completely flat at least twice and routinely run down to ~11v and they persevered for 3 years.
I finally bought a set of solar panels so I don't murder my WallyWorld batteries. Should've gone solar earlier...

Optimas can take a beating. They have fewer welded parts so there's less to fail. Also have the least internal resistance; charge up the fastest. More cranking amps for their weight, faster recovery, lighter, and multiple mounting options.

I'll get a YellowTop for the Jeep when the OE battery starts to fade.

Another Dead Sears Platinum Battery

I also made the change to Platinum Die Hard after mixed results with Optia. The Die Hard did just that after two years and 10 months. I took it back today and after 1/2 hour they signed me in and tested it. It tested bad so the procedure is to charge and retest. It retested bad so after 2 1/2 hours I was on my way with a new battery but it has the old warranty. Plan time when you return one. It was the marine version in my Jeep with a 3 year replacement warrenty so now I have two month replacement then they will pro rate it.

Here is the trick or catch and why I'm wasting my breath... Had I waited until just after the free replacement time had lapsed and actually paid a pro rated amount then the warrenty would have started over. I was pleasant and made friends with the guy at Sears so I asked him how long the Platinum batteries are typically lasting. He said 3 years in Arizona and 4 up north at the store he came from. $259 battery. I'm glad I bought one of the fine $99 Walmart batteries for the boat this year. I'm starting to think that there is no such thing as a premium battery. Just a premium price. Between the two I think the Optia is better.

The Optimas can only promise the same 3 years of life as a normal battery. After that you're gambling, just like with a regular battery. We swap batteries every 24 months for life safety applications.

If my battery is under my hood and not in the cab, I'll use a plain battery. Batteries are about the only Napa brand thing I buy anymore. I avoid Interstate and Cat.

It's funny, I still have the OEM battery in my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. I bought the truck new in Nov 2000. That battery is 14 years old next month and still working just fine. Had to replace one terminal end last year on the positive side. That's it. I am amazed and just waiting for it to die, but no go so far.

So what is the general opinion around here? I had always ran optima in the past but with all the recent Optima bashing I was swayed to the Sears Die hard battery. I know they did indeed move production from USA to Mexico and from everything I have read since the move quality has been garbage. Anyone here bought Optima in the last 4 years and have no issues?

I've had my 2 yellow tops for about a year and a half now. No issues at all. Before those was a red top, that lasted 5-6 years

That's wicked. I had good luck with the factory battery as well. 8+ years on a Ford Escort (AC Delco) battery. 9 years and 180,000 miles on my Honda Civic and we see cold temps here in the winter!

My understanding is that no Optima fits 2012+ Wrangler. But maybe optima will have one when you will change. I heard so bad things about the OEM battery so I changed it directly to a ODYSSEY Extreme Series Battery PC1220 and before with my new OEM battery I could not run my Waeco fridge on the rear 12v outlet, but with this Odyssey battery it works.

The Yellowtop do work in dual setup in a Wrangler 2012+

Anyway, I followed this article http://project-jk.com/jeep-jk-new/odyssey-performance-series-battery-for-2012-up-jeep-jk-wranglers, http://wayalife.com/content.php?156...-Battery-PC1220-for-2012-Up-Jeep-JK-Wranglers

We dont have SEARS in Sweden but a option http://project-jk.com/jeep-jk-write...-platinum-battery-for-a-2012-jeep-jk-wrangler

Intresting reading, Odyssey or Optima http://www.rocky-road.com/odyssey-battery.html

You can put in a Yellowtop but you need to make some alterations.
It would be nice if MOPAR made a retrofit kit for an "official" dual Yellowtop fitment. So many people want it.
