Optima or Odyssey?

I took my primary battery (Optima blue top / deep cycle) out of my ski boat prior to selling it and put it in the Tundra, so it was in the boat starting the spring of '05 and has been in the Tundra since '06. It's been completely drained at least five times over the years from accidentally leaving the ignition on, sitting all winter in the boat, etc. It powered my boat with a high-draw stereo system and has also powered my truck w/winch, off-road lights, stereo amplifier, and all the other goodies for several years. When I added the Engel this past summer I added a second Optima blue top and National Luna split charging system.

So I don't have any experience with Odyssey's.......but I can say that I'm definitely not an Optima hater, I've owned six over the years in various vehicles and have never had one fail me.

The last few I've purchased on-line with free shipping and I've had really good (and super fast) service out of these guys -

I just replace my Red top Optima in my FJ40 that sits sometimes for months without starting. Feb'10 it would have been 8 years old. I felt I got my monies worth so I bought another at Costco for $127.00.

I have nothing bad to say about Odyssey except the price.

I don't think anyone here will argue that the Optima batteries being manufactured 5 years ago were (are) solid performers. I've got one in my Jeep.

Unfortunately, the current production batteries do not perform at the same levels, as we hear time and time again.

Comparing the current production Optima batteries with those produced before Optima "jumped the shark" is comparing apples and oranges.
