Our 1st Week in Yellowstone

Every Miles A Memory

My wife and I are working in Yellowstone this summer for the sole reason that we'd be able to have the 2.2 million acres at our beck and call to photograph.

So far, our first week has been a photographers dream. We've seen and photographed every animal except a Grizzly, a Moose and Wolves. We've seen both the wolves and a Grizzley, but they were too far off to get any decent shots of so we just sat glassing them through scopes and binoculars, probably one of the best way to see wildlife in the park!

So here is what we've captured in the first week.

Beautiful pictures.
A place I would like to visit some time.

I was conceived there my parents tell me when they were on a camping trip there long ago.
It would be kind of nostalgic to visit there.

What are you waiting for? The place is probably one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Even with all the tourists, the beauty overshadows the normal feeling of a tourist trap.

Its so big, you can go on hikes and be all by yourself for the entire day even though the park is sold out!

Dont wait, go visit!

Do you shoot Cannon or Nikon? Which lenses do you use for wildlife?

My wife and I shoot Canon bodies...either a 5D or a 30D

All of these were shot with a 30D and a 400mm f/2.8

A few of them had a 1.4x extender on it which brought the combo out to a 896mm because of the 1.6x crop factor of the 30D body itself.

All except the Great Horned Owl Fledgling and the Ram with it's mouth open were shot hand held!! Sort of impressed myself that I could hold the combo and get a clear shot. The lens alone is 11.8lbs:Wow1:

I'll keep updating as we get more shots! This place is a gold mine for photographers

Pat,
Great Pics ! Thanks for sharing.

Where are you guys working in Yellowstone? I worked for Hamilton Stores at Old Faithful in the summer of 96. I'm not sure if they are still the retailer there or not. I haven't been back since 2001, when my wife and I were there for a week visit.

My wife and I plan on doing the same thing some day, we would love to live a summer in the park (maybe when we kick the kids out). We go to yellowstone at least once a year, usually 3-4, now we are moving to Nebraska, which puts it a little farther away, but we still intend to go. Just becuase I have it at work, here is a pic of my kid giving a thumbs up from the hoodoos. Nevermind, will have to wait until I get home, Don't have any editing software and the file is too big.
