Great pics! :)

We went to alot of those same areas just a couple weeks before you did I have been lazy about a trip report. It's always cool to see what others capture in the same area.

I am trying to figure out how on earth that cruiser flopped right there! It was right after coming over Black Bear Pass right? Any story?

It's was before the downhill portion. He was trying to make the turn in one turn and thought that the snow would compress but it didn't. Still to solid and before he could do anything over it went.

Great pics. Most of these are just around the corner from me. I am really happy to finally have a truck to drive all of these great roads. I'm hoping to start a trip this fall with a few of these. Would you say that Imogene and Bear are the only 4LO sections of your trip. I would love to see some more pics of that portion of your trip.

Going back down engineers I would say 4lo. I was in high most the time and riding the break (not a good idea). Portions of Carson Townsite 4lo would help going up a few spots and then down the hill. Going down Hurricane and California gulch would require it as well.

Yes, to your other two.

Be careful though the Vally of the Gods unless you feel like jumping your vehicle in a few locations (I about did). Would be fun though in a rally car.

It is interesting that you mention this....I actually launched a rental SUV on that road. It was fun and scary! (yes I was being stupid!) It was my first trip out west before I moved to NM. I little too much youth and inexperience.

I was in the Green Toyota T-100 that was in front of your group. We saw that you had 17 rigs on the trail so decided to take off ahead of you. We came close to losing the silver 2000 model Ford Explorer on the second switchback below Ingram Falls. The driver could not get traction and was inching closer and closer to the edge of the 900 foot drop. Ended up helping him take a wider line around the switchback by hooking up two straps and pulling him back. After that he teetered on two wheels as he made the 3 point turn.

Too bad about that flop, it was the diesel cruser, right?

I forgot to mention, my kids had a blast having a lemonade stand on top of Imogene Pass. Too bad we did not stick around long enough to run into your group at the top of that pass. Something about lemonade not selling well when the storm blew in and the temperature took a dip.

Ya, the one that flopped was a diesel cruiser. It took awhile for the group to get though the trail. We about had one go over the side as well. He lost power steering and 4 wheel drive.

Next, I'm hoping to go back and explore some more of that area and then some.:safari-rig:
