Outback Proven: long range fuel tank for tacoma

Completely understand. Good luck with the tank. I hope your install is issue-free. And that there is someone to call if it isn't.
In any event, having the extra gallons of fuel is, in the end, what this is about and you will REALLY like the additional range.

Really looking forward to not carrying fuel cans...and dealing with their associated mess/hassle.

I bet! My JK had a small tank too. I just put a 2 gallon rotopax in back in case I or someone needed it, never had to use it. But on long trips it gets old stopping so frequently more than anything else. I'd like the bigger tank in my tacoma for that reason alone. My jeep got surprisingly decent mileage off road, probably because of the manual trans. I'm assuming the automatic in the tacoma is going to be a bit more wasteful at low speeds.

Not sure about current pricing. My price was the first-tank development price which included all the trial and error, fitting issues, messing around to test things, changes at the last minute, etc....so it was stupid expensive. I bellied up simply because Ii really wanted the extended range, the process was interesting and challenging and at the time I could afford it. Once he got the pattern down and used a cad cam process to cut out the pieces the price fell significantly. You would have to ask him where he ended up. I believe every tank he built became less expensive.
Shane never did have "production" set up so there was no production to stop. The tanks were made one at a time and done to order.
I certainly understand why someone would simply want to carry cans. Unless you use your vehicle in a way that requires extended range, adding the larger tank would make no sense at all.

I'll be looking at the skid plate issue as soon as I get mine. I like making stuff so, if feasible, I may look at designing one and having it bent up. Or, maybe using something like UHMWP. We'll see!

I would likely never carry more than one Jerry can and this tank will give me 1.5 Jerry cans worth of usable extra fuel so I feel like the 34 gal is enough for me.

I just got the bill from my importer today. Let's just say that I don't want to talk about it. It is what it is. If you can get it done for only $227, I'd say do it!

Import fees totaled $570. Way, way too much. Basically, paying fees as if I'm the importer (bond charges etc). They only indicated the destination charge of $65 to me during the process. I picked up the tank and a month later get a bill for $1,100. I told them that is crazy. They came back and said half the fees belonged to LRA. Now the bill is $580 which is still crazy considering I paid $450 for shipping to LRA.

Don't use Logistics Plus. It may be cheaper paying air freight...

Destination Terminal Handling Charges - CFS : $61.00
Import Customs Brokerage : $125.00

ISF 10+2 Filing : $35.00

Single Entry Bond Fee for ISF : $40.00
Merchandise Process Fee : $2.00
Customs Duty Fee : $31.25

The fees in bold seem reasonable to me. What do you guys know about these "bond fees"?

I was just raped for 759.14!!!!! Pissed of doesn't quite explain it for me. Not to mention over a few months overdue on expected delivery date

Going to try to install it now.

Wow! Sounds like I'll be finding a way to mount a rotopax or two on the camper and just stop more often.

Details? Delay on your end (your selected shipper) or their end? Assuming the $759.14 is the total shipping including customs, bonds, port, etc. What did your shipping agent tell you the price would be?
