Outpost Truck Campers

The weather cooperated nicely when we made the trek across Nevada and Utah a few weeks ago to pick up our camper. The guys at Outpost were great and after spending a bunch of time in my camper I will vouch for the quality of their work. The quality of their craftsmanship, and the camper’s components and materials are top notch.
I am especially happy with how well this type of camper is insulated and the near zero condensation. Filled the diesel heater’s tank somewhere around Durango 25 days ago and it’s still over 2/3 full. The only really cold(for us) nights were the first few on the way home which were in the low to mid 20’s, and the amount of fuel spent was negligible.

It’s a really well thought out camper. Very comfortable space for two and a dog.

I just bought a Tremor. Did you do any suspension mods for this camper?

Yes, sounds like a better all around product and service. TC terms aren’t the best anymore from rumor and local makes it better for business.

IRCC you have an Outpost on order? Will you get the 24 or wait to get a 25 model?

One thing I wonder about is the insulation and R-Value performance of the Lemker panels. XPS (TC) has higher insulation value than PET (Lemker) foam. Then if they’re going from a 2” thick panel to 1.25” thick panel I’d assume there would be some R-value decrease and effect on winter performance. Thinking downstream, that would in turn affect how much your heater has to run which would use more diesel or battery performance. PET foam is lighter weight and stronger however. So there’s certainly trade off with each.

I never heard of TC using XPS. They used PU in the beginning, pretty certain. At any rate, properties of these structural plastic foams isn't very different for the same densities, and R value is between 4-6/inch. The light ones are typically 4-5 lb/cu ft density, compared to common XPS foams that are in the 1.5-2.0 lb/cu ft range. For that higher density you get much higher strength values, 5-10x typically. R value changes little with density, because the main heat transfer path is between closed cells of air, not the plastic.

I chose PVC because it was stronger by weight than PET. But PET has better temperature resistance as I recall.

Regarding your concern about insulation, 1.25" of foam with no thermal shorts would be plenty for almost everyone, IMO. The optimal amount of insulation for a camper is a lot less than it is for a house, because extra thickness takes up valuable space, and you need a decent amount of air infiltration for your occupants regardless. If your plan is to camp in extreme winter regularly though, you may notice a difference.

I got this from Lemker's first post on ExPo last year. https://forum.expeditionportal.com/threads/lemker-overland-introduction.245869/

I read somewhere that outpost are working on a 8’ model with a wet bath for a 2025 sneak peak. With the change in panel supplier to the updated 6.5 I wonder if it will be delayed or how far along they are with it. I think they really did a nice job with the 6.5 and especially for the price point. Definitely waiting to see what they come up with.

The new hardtop supertramp has some nice features also but not even in the same ballpark for price.

terms at TC have always been the same for our wholesale customers. the reason behind the change to lemker are unknown to us but I believe the political situation played a roll.

I think they did a fantastic job with high quality components, features you need/don't, all at a great price point. It's 100x better than anything Scout can dream up of and it's $30K cheaper than an ST HT. It's hard to argue with the Outpost form a price/features standpoint. I just don't think the ST-HT is worth $30K more and in some ways I think the Outpost does some things better. That money to could go toward a Bowen Camper bed for the ultimate setup or toward truck/mods.

Would buy an 8 foot with a wet bath in a heartbeat. It's my dream setup. Really hope its true and they do it.

I was in talks with OEV to make a hard slide in like their campx. They wanted $30k more for 1.5 foot more panel. It would ship and still not even have a battery in that price. Yes difference to a Bowen bed would be good

Outpost all the way. I can’t wait to pick mine up in April

48” vertical rise under the cabover? Seems like a lot, resulting in big gap between cab and cabover. I’ve got only 2.5” gap, and wish it were LESS.
