Overland CJ6

just picked up a 73 CJ6, 304V8 and factory hardtop...
I have been toying with the idea of making this overland ready...

I know wranglers have been stretched, scramblers have their place as well.. Has anybody done anything to a 6 that stands out?

I searched and found some mention, but no detailed write ups or pictures...

Very nice! My original plan was to build a CJ-6, then Jeep came out with the LJ.

I'd love to see you build that one!

I'm kinda in planning stages right now....

Working on ideas right now... How best to keep stock aspects, but make it more functionable.

A CJ6 is a CJ5 with 20" spliced in the body behind the door opening. You can see the seam. Of course the frame is stretched in the same place giving you an almost ideal 103" wheelbase. They go down the road like a dream compared to a CJ5 and climb hills better.
I stretched a 1972 to make a CJ6 and wish I still had it. The factory axels are narrow track but you can swap them with all kinds of options. 1979 ish disk break Scout Dana 44s are a good swap and the perfect width to make it safer and more road worthy or just keep the lift low and run it. Yours looks great!

Love it! CJ6 is the ultimate jeep. I always wanted one and bought the LJ in '05 for that reason. That top is a rare find as well.

Squint, my thoughts exactly! That's why I prize my TJ-L as well, Kaiser should have marketed the CJ-6 better, would have sold a few 100K for sure!

Awesome build for sure!

That CJ6 is so sweet, that was my dream Jeep when I was growing up. I just watched Hatari again the other night and got me thinking about them again. Maybe I will go that route after my FSJ project is done.

I've always had a like'n for the CJ-6... A few local guys ran them WAy back in the 70s...
I'd love to get one & 4 link the front... make the longer rides a little more comfortable...

Cool JEEP... have fun with it...
