Given the option of adding a 270* awning and the shower cube, there is stuff hanging out there. What about running a length of aluminum from the top bracket to the bottom bracket on the forward lifts to act as a brush guard / deflector?

Neither of which I'd option. :) But yes, some type of actuator guard would be prudent for that that frequent tighter trails. In reality, I'm priced out of this so not even something I need to worry about. Ha.

...Curious why the change from the Truma system as used in the other models? In a rough comparison the CAMP BASE SW is an HBE extended by a foot in length. No picture of the interior yet but seems the extra length is all in the bigger U shaped dinette. Potentially have three fuel requirments with a petrol engine and the choice of a diesel heater plus propane cooktop,

I believe it is saying that the camper heater will be powered by the same fuel source as the pickup (gasonline or diesel) since Webasto make units that ease both of those fuel sources. Many of the camper vans that are now being built on gas (Ford Transit) chassis use the gas Webasto rather than the diesel Webasto like on the diesel Mercedes Sprinter chassis. And I assume the hydronic system will also be your hot water source. If that is the case, the question then becomes, why even have a propane burner if that is the only thing the propane is used for? Would much rather eliminate all propane and only have induction cook top if the cabin heat and hot water is cared for with gasoline or diesel.

I also really like the placement of the shower tray at the door!

Just illustrating how one could end up with 3 different fuel sources. I believe some folks prefer the diesel Webasto for high elevation performance. Just seems odd with the pendulum going to electric on these choices? With 400a - 600a in batteries and 400w - 800w of solar and an upgrade to a Victron 3000w electrical system you could conceivably do AC, cooking, and radiant floor heat with the propane/diesel/petrol fueled Truma / Webasto doing hot water and additional stationary heat source all without plumbing into the engine. And use electric for a block heater if needed.

A minisplit heat pump would be a neat option. Provides both AC and heat. Efficient heat source compared to inefficient resistant heat since it's always more efficient to 'move heat' than 'make heat'. Gets less efficient as it gets colder, but our home unit makes full btu rating down to 0 degrees F. Midlevel and economy units are usually good down to 20F amd 30F respectively for their full btu rating.
They all blow warn air rather than hot, so one must plan ahead, but keeps the person right in front of the outlet from frying, which is nice and camper are small spaces.

I know people will put residential split units in Class A's or bus conversions, etc. I'm not aware of a rugged version of a dual cycle that would be better suited to a truck camper. What I like about the Cruise N Comfort, fabricated in the USA, locally sourced parts, and with their marine build background, likely more durable.

Only thing I learned today that is relevant to post is that the interior cooktop is an induction burner and a propane burner. I inquired about two propane or two induction burners.

Apparently the single induction burner is easy to remove thereby allowing access to the furnace, water heater systems for service.

asked OEV the question. There is a bracket included. Not full height but I think sufficient. What do yiu think?

Well the optional awning and the shower cube on the driver side are both covered when not in use I think they’ll probably be OK with the occasional branch or something. To me it just seems that the two roof jacks at the midpoint on the camper have some exposure in particular the wiring. I think when you get there and take a look at it make a judgment. They certainly have the ability to manufacture something to give it some more protection. Are they only doing the camper install in Red Deer still? When I spoke to them in the fall I was told that the BASE-CAMP could only be installed at the factory.

Do you have a rough idea Howard when it would be ready if you order it?


Just like on the HBE I think the lav area could be a better utilized for additional storage while still having a lav. The only item that has to be worked out is that you have the shower connection inside the lav closet.

I guess it is a good thing that there’s not a LITE version of this. I really do like the BASE-CAMP but the HBE is probably better suited for me.

early March production start. Mid April completion. But I’ve no truck to put it on.

Well congrats at least on the camper. I gave up on the used market, at current prices I think it makes a new F350 XLT seem reasonable. How late can you make changes to the order If you wanted to?

for the camper? Not sure. With in reason I’d say up until that particular component is built.

The hard sided BASE-CAMP is not being offered currently, but for those that want to day dream, there were originally some images on the OEV website back then. Note this is prototype and may have been a blend of Summit and BASE-CAMP, but it is what was up in their gallery back then. Enjoy.
