Overland Explorer Vehicles (OEV) BASE-CAMP Pickup Camper - Soft-Wall and Hard-Wall Versions

Some differences, based on the previous Summits, are:

Length (Base Camp is 9'. Previous Summit's were 10.5' and 12')

Width: Base camp is 78" wide exterior and Summits were 84" wide.

Thicker walls. Base camp 1.5"/38mm walls. Summit's had 2.1"/54mm thick walls.

Interior layout, Interior amenities, systems, features and available options differ: Such as diesel/hydronic heat, induction cooktop (no propane in Summits), huge hardwall bath layout (with cassette toilet way off to the side), tons of drawer and cabinet storage, roof hatch, more windows, stainless steel countertops, microwave/convection oven, passthrough to cab as an option, etc. Previously, the longer 12' Summit also had a rear garage/storage.

In my mind, the BASE-CAMP series will still have the feel of a slide in camper where the Summit's would feel more like an RV.

In short the BASE CAMP goes on the F350 / 3500 platform. SUMMIT on the F550 / 5500. SUMMIT is a beast. There was one at EXPO, the one that OEV uses for pictures on their website. It’s big.

And just like that here is an earlier version of the hard wall BASE CAMP for sale. Pictures give some idea of what the hard wall might look like.

I wonder if the Base Camp hard wall is the Summit???

They will not be related. There will be a hardwall and softwall BASE-CAMP (exactly the same as one another except for the pop-top vs. hardwall).
The Summit line is a completely different model and will be heavier, longer, wider, with thicker composite walls, different interior layout, etc. and fits a different truck chassis.

Some sort of human-sized pass-thru on the Summit vs no human-sized pass-thru on the BaseCamp; the biggest difference I had understood.

Interesting - so the above version of the hard wall Base Camp (9?) for sale has a pass thru. But sounds like that option maybe only be available on the Summit going forward?

The specs say the softwall basecamp has an option for a "cabin to cab pass through – sliding glass window on front cabin wall". So looks like that is only a sliding window. Not sure if the hardwall basecamp will only have the sliding window option or a full walkthrough, but guessing only the sliding window.

Current softwall base camp specs: https://overlandex.com/wp-content/u...Specification-and-Options-Rev1-Nov10-2021.pdf

To be clearer, the RAM BaseCamp9(H) above says "Pass Through Window to Cab - vinyl snap in door/cover." With the black cover on in the pics, it's difficult to tell how large this window is and if a person could squeeze through in an emergency or not.

I was expecting all Summit's to have at least a 3/4-height duck-through between cabin and cab...we'll see.

Can't think of any reason for the Base Camp to be narrower than their other campers. Misprint? One exterior width the other interior? I will say that 74.5" is going to be very tight for me as I am 75". Hmmmm Hope you are wrong.

Joy? Not yet but after MUCH hassle the cab chassis is in Red Deer. Hopefully a less than four week turnaround.

What ever happened with your fuel tank predicament?

I purchased the entire list of parts from Ford to install the 40 gal aft tank. After weeks of waiting for the back ordered straps that hold the tank in place I had some custome fabricated as a temp solution. That enabled me to get the truck to Overland. The straps are now in my possession.

I reached out directly to Arnold on the BASE CAMP width. I'll post up when I hear back.
