Overland Expo '11 Swap Meet?????

I'm not sure how messy this would be to arrange, and maybe I just need a sanity check on this idea, but wouldn't it be an ideal opportunity to leverage high attendance events like OE11 to include an early morning or evening tailgate swap meet? Obviously those of us attending the event only have so much space to bring items we want to sell, but this sure seems like a perfect opportunity to do so. As an example, I have some camping gear like chairs, fold up tables, lights, etc. that would easily fit during such a trip and would be easy to set up a small table at the vehicle before or after the OE doors open/close to try and sell these items. I would think others would too. Not to take business away from the OE vendors, a small tailgate seller's fee could certianly be charged ($5?) towards any overhead required to add such an event. Thoughts?

I love the idea. I've got a box full of gear thats just too small/inexpensive to be worth shipping out, but might be useful to a fellow overlander. I'd be up for a small seller fee as well...

This is awesome! I could see the list of smaller items becoming difficult to manage via this forum. Is it possible to keep a "master" list going somehow? Any ideas who we could approach at OE to make it official and advertise more so that we get widespread participation? Some kind of tailgate event like a Hamfest or similar and there could potentially even be donations of items that don't sell. Just some thoughts. Not trying to over complicate. This seems like a perfect morning or evening event and the right people all present for overland/camping gear and related types of goods.

Example: I have a changing room, MSR plates, pots, etc, large MSR rainfly, slotted table, chairs, Garmin TrailGuide, etc. that could probably fit in the JK.

Remember folks, OVX and the Desert Rendezvous are two different events in two different states at two different times... sorry for any confusion :)

If you want a swap meet at OVX, it's Rosanne's show.

I think so long as it does not involve any companies who sell new equipment and its just us selling spares, extras, parts we don't use anymore I don't think it would be a problem.
I would think it would need to be kept to the camp ground.
Maybe one night set our stuff out while people are wandering around the campground visiting.

If you know anyone who plans to attend the event and thinks a tailgate swap meet would be a good thing please ask them to post here so that we can give Rosanne an idea of the level of interest and just maybe she can pull something off for us.
