Overland Expo Events for 2015!

Here is my 2cents. I rode a motorcycle from North of Toronto Ont. Ca for two days to get to the event. This has been on my bucket list for so long. So excited when there was a East venue. It poured as most of you know but I have never seen it rain that hard tat long. All the Rawhide courses and motorcycle stuff was cancelled due to safety reasons. That's my understanding. We spent our time in survival mode trying to stop the rain from soaking everything. We were unsuccessful. I did bring a full rain suit with me which really save the day. We had many people offer us anything we needed to get through the weekend. I spent Sat. Wandering around the Exibitors who were all friendly and very knowledgable. On Sunday we were going to make a run for but had not a dry thing. Speaking to a guy about KLR's ( he had his FJ there) he came back with 2 brand new socks for me to get home in. I put my feet and new socks into dry bags then in my boots. This was the first time I had had dry feet all weekend. How could I ever put a price on my experience and memories at Overland East. Think next year I will drive the Frontier and trailer.

Ack. Sorry for that long ride, but thank you for the story. In the end the Overland Expo is really about the community, and we have the best.

We had a great time at the event. We drove up from Texas and got a weather resistant camp set up on Thursday afternoon in between rain showers.

We had filled our schedule with a moderate load of courses that all were well attended. We only had some light rain for the advanced winching class.

When not in classes we wandered around the vendor area and checked out the driving course. It was muddy but running.

The ruts were tough on the 4 wheeled vehicles and tougher on the two wheeled ones.

A few helping hands and he was up and out.

Finally on Monday morning we saw some sun as we packed up. The camping area was emptying out fast.

We crawled out up over the hill and down and out to continue the adventure.

We camped our way up the Blue Ridge Parkway the next few days avoiding closed sections. We made it to up to PA and stayed for a few days before heading back south via Kentucky the following week. Just under 3500 miles and 2 weeks on the road. The only significant rain we had was the 4 days at OVX but we'll be back again next year.

Overland Expo East 2015

Overland Expo East 2015 was a muddy wet affair, but it was also an incredible gathering of the overland tribe, where many stories were shared and friends made. The second annual event, held at Taylor Ranch just outside Asheville, NC, was full of hearty souls who didn’t let a “little” rain and mud get in the way of having fun, learning and sharing, all in preparation for the next adventure, wherever it might take them. Due to steep and deep muddy fields, better known as parking areas, many day pass attendees couldn’t join in on the fun, as there was just no where for them to park at the event. Those that found other ways, like taxis or hiking in from a nearby school parking lot, were rewarded with quality time with industry vendors, in-depth roundtable discussions, expert instructional classes and lots of great tales from the road less traveled. Those that got to the event early, camped out for the weekend and purchased experience passes got a weekend full of action and a lot of personal attention, as some of the crowds just couldn’t access the site. The biggest loss for the event this year, due to the weather, was the extremely low attendance by the motorcycle crowd, and justifiably so as some nearby roads were hazardous to travel and ground tents in this much mud isn’t a whole lot of fun. Check out the photos in the EVENT POST for a deeper look into the weekend of adventure and be sure to check out the OFF-ROAD ADVENTUREMOBILE and OVERLAND GEAR reports from the event as well.
