I agree they were a bit excessive, but with all the weight I carried on top I didn't want to bend the thin sheet metal on the drip rail. Here are a few pictures of the new system for the roof rack and spare that doesn't depend on the roof drip rail for support.

Oh.... me likey! I was gonna ask how the new version mounted up front until I saw the 2-3 pics...Nice cage. How are those heims on the swing out doing for you? Any movement or rattle?

Rock solid, no rattles of any kind. I'm waiting one more trail test on the next trip before I take the rack off and have it powder coated.

So far I'm really pleased with the results.
