Packing Heat...who does it?

Well, before this gets locked, I would like to voice an opinion about the mentality of those that carry guns. For the most part, I think that the vast majority of folks that are into firearms share many qualities - preparedness, preservation, appreciation for proper use of equipment - be it guns or hi-lift jacks, and self discipline. I have been to many different gun ranges and a member of a few gun clubs. Without exception they are some of the nicest, most intelligent, and compassionate folks I have ever met.

You never hear about all the guns carried into the woods that also made it home without incident. You only hear about the .0000001% that are dumb enough to use something for the wrong purpose and in the wrong way. Much like the news about cars. The thing that escapes comment is the feeling of security, the comfort of knowing you and yours have equal footing, and confidence to do things that might keep others at home. To each their own of course, but I say pass judgment on the individual and not the associated group.

When I was 27 I lost the love of my life to a car accident. It does not have me hating cars, or scared to drive, or calling for the ban of cars and trucks because they kill far more people than guns do. I simply call for the responsible use of them on an individual basis.

If you are scared of the woods - then stay out of the forrest. If you are really and truly running into meth labs I would say you are making poor, or at least poorly researched, decisions.

Thanks for the uniformed judgement about my decision making ability, and thanks for making an intelligent discussion personal.

Unfortunately, the beautiful Kiamichi mountains of Oklahoma harbor some bad people, as do the wonderful Ozarks and in this day in age, probably most other forested areas cut with trails that are in proximity to population areas.

Perhaps you should get out more and judge less.:wavey:

No, no - I could never do that - it would redefine me.
:ylsmoke:

If anyone chooses to go into known unknown territory without researching it, I think (and I doubt I am alone in this) there is room for improvement.

Worse, if the Kiamichi mountains are known as battle zones, is to venture there looking for peace and harmony.

I'm just saying.

My apologies for assuming formidable constitution in the decision making areas. Sincerely.

The first rule of self defense, always make sure you have a backup weimeraner in case you lose your primary.

I find laser cats to be superior to weimeraners.

Having recently been in that situation, from my perspective the worst thing in the world would be to have stumbled upon the meth lab with them thinking/knowing I was defenseless.

Some years back in Southern Arizona a group of three Land Rovers (One Series, two Defenders) lost track of which trail we were on and stopped out at a house out in the middle of nowhere. As we pulled up we saw a guy standing behind a truck. We quickly told him we were lost and could he help us find the trail we were trying to follow. He came over carrying a rifle and said he thought we were cops when we came in. Sure he would be glad to tell us which turns to take to get back to the trail. Soon 2 other guys, also carrying rifle came out and asked us about our Land Rovers. The with smiles sent us on our way back to the place where we took a wrong turn.

We weren't perceived as a threat, and as lost tourists were helped. If one of us was obviously armed or was in the least aggressive, I think the outcome would have been bloody. We talked about our experience later and decided that we had run square into a drug operation for sure. A smile and pleasant word can often defuse a potentially dangerous situation. We totally ignored the rifles and other than hanging on to them so did they once they figured out they weren't being attacked.

There are some real nasty classically evil people out there, but most of them are not and will live up to or down to how they are treated.

members offending each other = not what we're here for

Deer and Weimeraner = you're doing it wrong
