Paddling pics

Some images I captured last night from a sunset paddle in Marquette at Presque Isle. There was a cool mist coming off a calm Lake Superior. Thunderheads to the east were illuminated by both the setting sun and from lightning within. Pictures don't even begin to capture it.

There are some great photos here.

This is in the Mackenzie River delta about 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle, on our way to the Beaufort Sea and the Tuktoyaktuk Peninsula.

Caught this picture of a rattlesnake swimming across the North Platte river in Wendover Canyon when we were paddling it this weekend. Picture isn't that great because the sun was bright and I couldn't see the screen so I had to guess on whether the snake was in the frame. I didn't know rattlesnakes were swimmers. Also a picture of the put-in just below Glendo Dam.

Nice thread and beautiful pictures!.
Kristian, have you paddled around the Manitou Islands?- I try and do a trip every year- this year the SW winds and waves were a little too harsh, so I just did the leg over to S. Manitou from Empire Bluff in early August- and took the ferry back. In retrospect I should have taken the ferry over because a 2-4 hour paddle took six and I was very sore. Last year was so much calmer. Great place for taking pictures.

Great shots Joash! Nope, I haven't paddled around them, only camped and hiked on the islands. I'm a bit weary of the 7 mile crossing from Sleeping Bear Point to South Manitou. The freighter is called the Fransisco Marazon and was Liberian actually. If my memory serves me correctly it ran aground in a storm around 1960.

This just serves to remind me that there are a TON of adventures I've yet to have right here near home. One of my dreams is a circumnavigation of Lake Superior.
