Painting an 80 Series Landcrusier! (Its Finally Done)

No, they look horrible, i will be installing a set of the Non-US Steelies when i get some time! :D

Looks awesome! I absolutely love the overseas basic look, especially in white.

I'm a big fan of the factory alloys, but you're right, they just don't look right on your rig now. Some nice plain-jane grey colored steelies would be just perfect.

Mangler, nice work! I'll echo everyone else and say it looks **************! I've already got a white 80 and seeing yours makes me want to repaint it. The finish looks great.

My sympathies on the time it takes to tackle a job like this. When I did the frame off on my 40, I had never done body work before and figured "how hard could it be?" Holy crap was I dumb. I spent well over a month of 8-10 hour days just doing the prep. Gotta admit when it came time to actually spray the color I had a blast.

You'll be pleased with the paint choice. I used the same PPG on my 40 and it held up great. This photo is after almost 5 years of consistent wheeling and I thought it still looked great. I always got compliments on the quality and people couldn't believe I had never done it before. I'm sure you'll hear much of the same. Good work.

Box Rocket - I've seen photos of your 40 and always loved the color :clapsmile - do you mind telling me what it is? It doesn't look like Dune Beige or other stock color - more like the green Ford used to use on Model A's. Anyway, great color.

Well I wish it was still my 40. Alas, I'm working on building another one. Anyway the color is called Spectramaster Green. I had the color I wanted in my head, and just went to the paint supply place and looked through the swatch books until I found the right one. This is almost exactly what I had in my head.

Mangler, sorry for the hijack. Love the 80.

Mangler, that thing turned out great! Inspires me for doing more stuff to my 80. I was just thinking of eventually bedlining the whole thing as it took more and more abuse down the road, but I'm really liking how your project turned out.

It has been said dozens of times bud but it is worth saying again...

AWESOME JOB!

Can't wait to see the "goodies" you have for this thing.

Painting

My only experience with preparation and paint is on a project RX-7 where a few of us stuffed a V8 into a 1985 RX-7. We worked on it for approximately 3months and it was no where near as nice. As you said, we developped a new found respect for people who do body work.
Job well done!

LC paint

Now how many rattle cans did that take?:wings:

Nice job, the prep work for a paint job is onerous and then you worry about sags and orange peel

Cool! A guy takes off for ten days and look what happens.
I have been wondering how this was/is coming along.

It looks great! And I am not offended by the emerald green, I would love to paint mine, maybe mustard yellow or voodoo blue though.

Oh, and it's been a week. (I need to stop by this week)
