All taken on a recent trip through Colorado using my Samsung S7. I have a Canon, but I have no idea how you guys are doing these cool shots with DSLR's. Those Milky Way shots are just too cool. Wish I knew how to do those. The trip out west would have been the perfect time to give a shot like that try. We get way too much light pollution here to try a shot like that.
Astrophotography is one of those unfortunate pursuits where you have to have the gear. A fast lens and a shutter remote are a must. Fortunately the wide angle kit lenses are good enough to get started. But if you really want to get serious, a Rokinon 24mm f1.4 with a full frame body and a motion control rig are where you'll eventually end up.
You can start with what you have using a tripod, a wide angle kit lens running wide open with a 20-30 second exposure iso as required. Use the timer so you don't shake the camera. Manual focus via trial and error using the review screen to zoom in on the stars.
