Paracord overhead net

Well i purchased an '05 TJ as a wheeling rig but now i am doing an expo build on it. Long story short is the fact that wranglers have crap for storage. I have seen the raingler nets but lets face it, I would much rather build it myself and save the $95 for another project. Instead of using webbing i am going with paracord for several reasons. First i am a bushcraft type individual who looks at all the multiple uses one can get from an item. With paracord I have a 550 lb breaking strength for the combo with inner strands and a 35 lb. strength with just the inner strands. Lots of uses for this stuff in an emergency but now instead of carrying bundles of it that serve no purpose I will now use it for a storage solution. Paracord can be purchased with free shipping for $10 at www.knivesshipfree.com The owner of this place is fantastic to deal with. The small d-rings were picked up at an ace hardware store. Next you absolutely need a template to have this come out looking good and to hold its shape. I picked up scrap pegboard from home depot for $0.50 So grand total for this was in the ballpark of $12. I just had my appendix removed yesterday so i am just going to sit here, relax and work on this little project. This setup is going to be 24" X 36" and uses roughly 50 feet of paracord. Here is a picture of the strands on the pegboard ready to be stitched together. There will be more to come tonight or tomorrow.

Cool project.

Right now I'm making a watchband from ~10' of paracord.

Paracord is fantastic. I do keychains, bracelets, watchbands, knife lanyards and loads of other things. I have also used it for traps and snares and also pulled the inner strands out to make a drop type fishing net that worked with great results. It is basically the bailing wire of the 21st century LoL

Here is an update. Normally i sew really fast but with the appendix only being gone for two days and pain meds making things so blurry i am going really slow.

First pic shows the first finished row.

The next picture, I am stitching together the two strands with old paracord inner strands with a pass through and over and pass through and then under and then use a suture knot, After that I slide shrink wrap tubing over to secure it and the heat it up.

When it is done I will snip the remaining ends and then probably make a double wrap with 100 mph tape just for good measure.

And here it is all buttoned up waiting for the 100 mph tape and should be good to go. I will use 1 inch webbing and buckles to secure it to the front sport bars and then I will have a place for small books, jackets and other misc items.

WOW !

when you said making a net i figured it would be a quick and easy net using overhand knots.

GREAT job.

heal up.

When doing a fishnet out of the inner strands i do just knot them. But this is so large that to keep them all the same tension you have to stitch them somehow. The thread is 35lb breaking strength but i stood on one end and pulled on the other and was unable to break just one.
