Congratulations Tony!

...Always a great feeling to talk on the 2M with other hams.

Vanity call sign?

Did you do a lookup?

Yes; the one I was assigned isn't that easy to recognize or pronounce phonetically. So, I immediately put in for a different one.

Still trying to decide on a radio. I'm torn between getting just an analog radio, like the Yaesu FT-8900R, and have the 10m and 6m capabilities too. Or, getting just a 2m/70cm, but get into D-STAR or APRS capabilities like in the ICOM 2820H or the Kenwood D710A.

I know the one thing I do like about all of these is cross-band repeat so that I can set it up to work with an HT if I'm out and about.

Are you going back for your General? And congratulations on passing your test! You'll get addicted to the quality of conversing on mobile HAM quickly!

Thanks, Dan; I think I just might. I already ordered the study guide...should be here next week.

Passed the general class license exam yesterday.

It might be a while before I get the extra class license, but I'll eventually get it.

For now, I need to start learning how to use HF.

national field day is in two weeks. I'm going to participate with a local club and start learning.

Very cool! I am going to start working on my General very soon, I need to get a few computer certifications out of the way first.

FYI: I passed my tech test about a month ago and really used the Ham for the first time the weekend before last during Sedonafest. :victory:

Congrats Tony!

Congrats Tony! Those HAM guys tried their hardest to get me to take the General after I passed the Technicians, but after spending a few moments talking to another lady who had just taken her's I decided the Tech was probably as far as I would need to go! ;)

I'm trying to get Josh to go to the Field Day here in AZ but not sure thats going to happen.

Hmm... I guess I missed out on the Field Day info.. When and where is it? I'd definitely be interested in going. It will help me loose a bit more of my newbness. :sombrero:

Thanks Heidi.

Twist his arm; I'm sure you can do it.

As for prepping for the general or extra, try the online program. It's very effictive and really speeds up the time it takes to get ready. Plus, with the adaptive testing, you will know when you're ready to take it.

I think mobile HF could open up a lot more possibilities for emergency communications.

Check out a local club for participating with other folks.

Otherwise, there's some info here.

Hey. Congrats on the General status. Texas has good echolynk coverage as well as many linked repeaters. Hope to hear you on the air some day.
