Passenger or drivers side

A question to those who have RTT's. Which side do you have the tent opening on? Are there any pro's or con's to one side or the other??

Mine opens to the passenger side just because the trailer sat in a position that made it easy to install it that way when i set it up. I have heard that you want them on the passender side since most camping sites are set up for passenger side access or something like that. Not sure how true that is.

My swingout tire is on the drivers side as it seemed to block visibility less. This means my ladder to reach the rest of the roof rack was on my passengers side, which meant my tent had to be on my driver's side.

That said if I didn't have a lengthwise half roof tent, but a square tent, I'd probably have it open up to the rear of the car if at all possible. Give me more of a "roof" over my tailgate kitchen area.

Cheers,

EDIT: Pay no attention to my avatar picture, that was taken a long time ago when I opened it up to be entirely over the roof. Now I store stuff on the other half of the roof.

Probably not generally applicable, but . . .

in most campgrounds with electricity, water, etc., the facilities are set up to go into the driver's side rear. If you have any cords or hoses to connect (as I can on the Tacoma), having the tent open to the passenger side keep you from tripping on them.
