I will pick 4400....that will give me only 100 lbs over with a wet camper and gear. Airbags will help for sure! thanks...

I agree. I had them in my Jeep. Worked great! I am looking at a lance 1172. Its 4500 lbs wet. So If I don't fill the water and keep the blackwater tank empty until we get close to our camping spot, I should be well under max capacity! I think its 3900 lbs dry. Either way, We drive sensible, and then I can have a camper and truck when either is needed....

Guys that have received the 2017's have gotten payload numbers all over the place. You will need to order the 18 or 20" wheels, gas engine, and minimal options to get the highest rating.

It's pretty straight forward. Load your truck with fuel and people and what ever else and drive across the scales. Subtract that number from the GVW. I have a 2016 DRW RAM crew cab limited.

With me and wife and full fuel and DEF and hold downs for camper I am 9300lbs. More than I thought. My GVW is 14k. That leaves 4700lbs. We ordered a new Host mammoth last month.
It weighs 4900 wet. I also want to add 6 batts and big inverter and my stuff. I will be over my GVW a bit but not over tire or axle ratings. When it's time to order again I'm thinking 5500.

But that doesn't include other cargo and people, right? If I were in your shoes, I'd go DRW that will get you over 6k lbs of payload.

people and gear are light for us. We have full backpacking gear setup. Also, the truck will be used more without the camper than with. So, DRW is not really an option for us. Make the SRW work.

I am looking at an xl, with 17" wheels and 37" tires with approx. 4 inchs of lift. I am having some sort of lift that can take air bags and still give a decent ride empty

If you get the 17" wheels you will get the lowest payload available. If you want more payload get the snow plow package with the basic 18" steel wheels. 37's are fitting on the 2017's with just a 2" front leveling kit, although you'll probably need airbags or it'll be nose high with your load and a 2" front level.

Yeah, I want to go up a couple of extra inches. 4 would be perfect...Airbags are going in anyways. I will get the suspension maker to figure out what we need to do to take the weight. IMO, she should be able to do that most times it will be 100kph or less, just dodging around with the rig. I don't drive fast...I don't think it would be as bad as people driving around with mid sized campers in the 1/2 ton trucks. Campers are almost the same weight but half the truck.

Ok, hold up. What happened to the Patriot? And might I remind you:

From mid-size to a cute ute, now to a monster truck. You're all over the place! :D
