Phoenix pop up truck campers

All,
Does anyone here have any experience with a Phoenix truck camper? I know they do custom work so most campers are different, but I was hoping someone can speak to the build quality, quality of materials etc. Good or bad, there is very little recent information out about these campers.
Any feedback greatly appreciated.

One of their custom builds.

Exactly what I am looking for, Yikes! ?
Looks like they will pretty much build anything despite the taste of the customer (no offense to owner of Bronco) but I really haven't seen / heard any reviews about them at all.

Thanks. @klahanie
I have done quite a bit of searching (here, Google, WandertheWest etc.) with pretty limited results other than the ones you just mentioned.
I had found that thread from MYTACO who bought his in 2013. His experience sounded terrible and has me vary wary, but that was roughly 10 years ago, a lot can change. The (ridiculous to me) Bronco pic from @vintageracer looks like it was built back in 2013 as well.
This thread has a lot of posts, but most the most recent post is back in 2016.

Thus, the reason I am asking if anyone has any recent experience with a Phx camper as I am pretty sure between the two of us we have found most of what is already out there from actual owners.

Runt used his hard.

They are still around, maybe just much more competition now. Its hard to say if its a no news, is good news thing. I have seen a few around, but not many. They did a lot less voloumn, so maybe the C-19 messed with them more than others.

Phoenix Campers announced last year that they no longer are doing custom builds like the Bronco specific camper build shown above. They are building several specific models in sizes for different types of PU trucks and flatbeds.

YES Phoenix builds a quality product and they have been around a longtime. Their competitors are FWC and Hallmark both also located around the Denver CO area.

From what "I" have seen I would put Phoenix at the top of the quality list of the three mentioned above. A lot of FWC owners may disagree however that is my opinion from what I have seen.

Quality is NOT CHEAP!

Neither is pricing from any of the three mentioned above.

You have 3 choices all located in the Denver area so giving them all a serious look to see which if any fits your perceived wants, needs and desires would be easy in a single trip.

Personally I would stay away from Phoenix Campers solely based upon their payment structure as stated on the first page of their website. You will have paid for HALF of the build cost before they start construction of your camper and you are then billed the final 50% build cost of your build 15-20 days BEFORE completion and delivery of your camper build.

NO WAY IN HELL would I agree to those terms of purchase! I don't give Damn how good they are!

I have a Phoenix popup camper. Picked it a few months ago after a 14 (?) month building process. It is pretty much what I asked to have built. I selected them because of their reputation, aluminum/composite shell and custom build. No chance for rot on/in the shell and I am able to use it off the truck. The custom build of course resulted in the few things I wanted but more importantly, not the many things I did not want.

I am happy with my camper and recommend that you reach out to them if you want a well built popup camper that will have more of the components and style you seek that might not be available from the other vendors.

Good deal.

Wasn't meant to denigrate or insinuate somehow on your search skills.

Mine are hit and miss at the best of times. And there are gaps where I've been away from this site.

True tho, most results are not recent by any means.

They have been around for a long time tho. Not an easy feat.

Indeed I considered them last century but went FWC. Times change and would do different today but that's because there are different choices.

Good luck with your research !

All good, I wasn't taking it personally,I just wanted to be clear that I had actually done quite a bit of searching on the inter-webs before posting and was hoping for more info that I couldn't find elsewhere.
Sometimes it is difficult as often people only post when there is something negative to say...

I was assuming you weren't the "that's what the search function" type of person ;)

I'm just doing my homework (I over-analyze everything), most likely a trip to CO to visit a few places in my future.

I do love that they do custom work, very appealing. But DAMN they are pricey. Thanks for pointing out the payment structure, I hadn't caught that from their website. I assumed it was the standard, X amount to get in line, 50% to start build, the rest at pickup.

That said, 2 places in Denver area, makes me think a trip to do some camper research (and just happen to bring my snowboard with me) is might be in my near future

Can I ask what truck and camper size / type you ended up going with?
Thanks for your feedback, I was hoping to gather intel from the fewer folks that went with a more custom setup.
I have nothing against others (ex. 4WC) I am just intrigued my other options, especially ones that offer more custom builds.

Best,
-Travis

Another builder to consider is ATC (All Terrain Campers) in Sacramento. It’s a small shop that builds campers similar to older FWC models. They do custom work, and they’re generally less expensive than competitors.

If I were searching for a replacement for my FWC in the Denver area, I would check out Supertramp campers too. They look really nice.
