What is your favorite photography magazine and why? I'm filtering out my magazine subscriptions, reducing my wheeling magazines and trying to expand to other hobbies.

National Geographic

Why? Because they focus on and feature exceptional images with interviews and talks on what matters most, the image, the artist, and how they were created. Gear rarely if ever is discussed unless it's simply to mention what was used to create. Nat Geo obviously does this to a lesser extent but they still employ some the best photographers out there and it's reflected within the magazine.

If you want industry news PDN is the best source.

I think that is a great question. I have a read a couple off the stand, and my problem is, with no base knowledge, I have no idea what they are talking about. I love photography, but need something a little more introductory.

• Shutterbug (GREAT Magazine with a lot of product reviews)
• Rangefinder (a little more for portrait photographers) but hey its free in the US
• Photoshop User Magazine
• Layers magazine (not just for photoshop but also for photography)

some of those might seem a little biased toward photoshop, but hey that's what i do for a living :sombrero:

• Rangefinder (a little more for portrait photographers) but hey its free in the US

Good suggestion on Rangefinder. I signed up after you posted that and checked out some of the articles online. Great articles for portraits/people.

I used to do the shutterbug thing but I really got sick of the amount of ad space they were using. a few others i used to read were the same way. Trevor posted the Lens work site (which i had never seen, thanks trevor) and after a brief skim through looks like a likely place for me.
I like to keep up with new trends to some degree, but have found that many of the trends (specially in stock photography) have turned to a place I do not wish to go. I also enjoy seeing other people work so Nat Geo is awesome, mix that in with a couple of non photography based but picture heavy magazines and your rollin. also photo forums are a great place to see other photog's work and link to their websites. Just my .02

I've actually been quite happy with the work on Flickr. Lots and lots of great photographers on there. Its giving me ideas for making great images.
