Yea well re-dearing will fix most of your woes. Once I switched to 285's 32" BFG AT and 285 Interco SSR 33.9" of course my mileage was worse with the Interco's but the loss with the BFG's since much smaller and closer to the 265 that came in the truck with 410 gears were ok. After the 295's went on the gas went south and the gears went in and the gas came back about the time ethanol was introduced and really screwed with my numbers. I'm between 16-18 with the 456's and 295 I wanted to go 255 and might pick up wmsfly when IM in ga but they look so skinny. I Like the traction I get from the nitto's and the fact they are 295 but wish I Had a set of 255's to compare fuel #'s with. I'm 98% certain I'd gain 1-2mpg with 255's.

Hmmm,
4wheel parts and discount tire say that there is an indefinite back order on these tires. The KM2 in the magic size... Thats odd. Anyone else heard of it or had issues getting some?

If the 'magic size' is LT255/85R16 - I just checked The Tirerack.com and they list "fewer than 2" in stock.

what so special about the 255/85r16 ?

It gives trucks like 40 more horse power.
No, just kidding. Its just becoming very popular for a couple of reasons.
For its true 33.3 inch diameter (as apposed to 285's 32.8 usually) and its skinny 10 in width. It has a low rolling resistance and all of the good ground clearance. Take a look at Scotts site. he did a write up on it that started to get the popularity increasing as well. www.expeditionswest.com

For ME its the magic size because it doesn't rub and give me the max ground clearance I can get without lots of modifications to frame and body for 35's.

Yep, sorry I was running out the door and figured that with the name of this post that it would get figured out. Thanks Redline. Thats odd. Other folks were getting them no problem. Now discount says none in site. doh.

I know this thread is about pics and is also kind of old, but i was just curious to how yall are liking these tires and the size. I'm really interested in this tire and size but would like to know more about it. I've done a lot of searching and have read this thread several times and found they are not too noisy on the road and perform well offroad.
How is the tread life looking for yall. I would be putting them on my DD and that is kind of a concern, even though i don't drive that much. Any other input would be awesome
Thanks in advance

MKM2 Reports

Well guys how about a few mini reports on these KM2 treads.

How did they balance/how many ounces each?

Noise or the lack of it?

Smooth or lumpy ride?

Well right now, I have stock suspension and stock wheels. So they are 7" wide.

I've had these on my LX450 for only about 500 miles now, and haven't gotten off the road yet, but so far I like them. The ride is pretty smooth and quiet, and they balanced fine with just a couple ounces on each wheel. These are the first MT's I've ever had, and to be honest I don't notice much if any more noise than with the worn-out Continental street tires that were on the truck when I bought it. It's been raining here off and on for the past week or two, and grip has been excellent on the wet pavement, something I wasn't necessarily expecting from an open tread design like this.

I'll try to get some pics up soon.

Some sort of lost...
I'm running the KM2's on my F150 in a 35x12.50R18 load rating D.
I only have a couple thousand miles on them so far, but I love them.
Balanced well with only a few ounces on each wheels, they are very quiet for an MT (but they always are when they are new). We had an ice storm with a good solid inch on everything. They worked great in the ice, driving through icy and flooded yards pulling downed trees around. They've worked great in snow, flooded streets, etc. Plenty quiet and smooth at 75mph on the freeway.

Any word on if BFG plans on making the All Terrain in this size? That would be idea for my uses. I just emailed them asking if they would, and included multiple links to various forums discussing this size and how popular it has become.
