Use to have a Jayco Offroad camper with a 4000 watt generator strapped to the front. Was nice having electricity, specially when the rest of the family are females. I used tips on RVnet.com to quiet it down, but was sensative to camp off on our own and only run it for a short time during the day when we were actually using it. I would also walk to my nearest neighbors and if I could hear it at all, talk to them about it to make sure it wasn't bothering them.
I sold the camper and the Generator. I wanted to get a quiet and more portable unit.
Reseraching all the generators, the chinese ones seem to be increasing and are about 10db higher than the Honda and Yamaha's
Seems like the new Yamaha 2000 Watt model is equievelant in sound to the Honda or so close it doesn't mater. The Yamaha also has a gas gauge as well and is less expensive then the Honda

Didn't see a lot in here on this generator from a search so I thought I would start a thread. I'll be trying mine out in Moab in a few weeks. I do have Dual Batteries in my trailer, so I don't expect to need it much.
I know my daughter has said she needs to be able to use her hairdryer when she cleans up after coming off the trail. She is actually one of the better wheelers in the club. The below pics are of her and her 4runner.
Heck, I installed the onboard shower in my truck because she wanted to do the Rubicon trail with me.
