Sportsters are ancient tech. 1 5/8" rear travel stock, single disc brakes, no tech save fuel injection past 06 or 07. Not tons of power. Just decent torque low down. Air cooled so you can cook them easy, need to add aux oil cooler, etc if you like riding hard in the heat. And they are 550lb roughly. And the rubber mount engines 04+ shake like a cocktail mixer and still vibrate the heck out of your hands. I've never ridden a solid mounted one but can only imagine.

For sure. His plan is to bring it to the shop in the fall so that they can have it over winter and have it ready to ride for next season.

Timely - after over a year of collecting dust (life gets in the way sometimes) I just got back from a morning coffee run and was reminded why I have the bike in the first place - for Colorado folks: Coal Creek > Peak to Peak > Train Cars in Ned for coffee, then down Boulder Canyon. I don't remember ever seeing Colorado with so much water in the lakes and rivers, and so much green in the trees -
It took one ride to mentally go from "maybe I should sell it" to "the right number of bikes is n+1"...

Africa Twin and a Tiger, both beautiful bikes! I looked at both very briefly. Out of my budget, haha. Maybe one day!
What are the specs on your Tiger?

2012 800XC - much more bike than I'm capable of utilizing, but skills build with time. It's been a perfect, problem free bike for 4+ years now. The only fancy electronics is the ABS control, it's either on or off. I got it used, fully farkled out. At the 24k mile service my grips were worn, and it took my dealer a few weeks to find heated Triumph grips - could have swapped for aftermarket, but I like factory stuff. Otherwise, it only asks for oil changes. My only complaint is that I'm 6' tall, I wish it was an inch shorter when I'm stopped, but if I put the seat in the lower position, it hurts my knees on long rides, so I'm just in between.
On that particular trip the Africa Twin was kicking my ****** with it's automatic. We definitely got into some sections of the COBDR that were just above my riding ability. I made it, but there were some steep, technical climbs where it would have been nice to know that I couldn't stall...
BUT - much better gas mileage on the long highway sections at the beginning and end - even fully loaded with camping gear I always get 200 miles+ on a tank, the Africa twin does not.

I get that. Yeah, DCT would be nice. I was really considering the NC750 for that reason.
That and cruise (real cruise - not a throttle lock) I feel would be game changers.

Yeah, the NC750 was high on my list too. Might sound weird, but that storage space where the gas tank should be would be really cool - I have a tank bag, and it holds a lot, but isn't lockable and is always kind of "there" when I'm riding. It's not really in the way, but it's not really out of the way, if that makes any sense.
At the end of the day, I had a budget, $6k 4 years ago, and this was the best option at the time at that price. I try not to be overly brand loyal, but now that I've had the Triumph, I have very little interest in other brands. If I had the budget for 2 bikes, a Scrambler would be in the garage as well

Yes, that storage space was a selling feature on the NC750 for me too. I may have ended up with it but after trying to contact the dealer 3 times with no response, I gave up. Here's the kicker. I bought my bike in May I think? I just checked and that particular NC750 is STILL in stock. Too bad the dealer was crap cause it's a nice bike. 2021 with only 2,300 kms / 1,400 miles on it.

I'm not brand loyal either when it comes to anything either. I just go with what I like and what I feel is a good value. I ended up with a Suzuki after all. I was really interested in the CB500X but there were none to be had at any of the Honda dealers around here.

The Strom was a good choice. I really like mine.
Also some medical Contracts on the Triumph. Somewhere in Oregon. The pic with the tent was for the Giant Loop Rally in the Alvord. A fun event to work.
The second was for a bicycle event, Tygh Valley rally I think*
That was a nice Moto, and my preferred. Strom was a close second. And my personal Moto.
My first time Moto camping, or really riding at all... on a KLR from Santiago to Punta Arenas. (Patagonia) 3k miles in 30 days. It did not have paniers so backpack it was. The large bulky thing is my bedroll, not heavy. As you can imagine though not a great load out, especially for a brand new rider. I learned a lot, and died a little.

I do like those Tigers. If money was no object I think I'd have a hard time picking between a Tiger and a GS1300...or an Africa Twin. Come to think of it the Moto Guzzi V85 TT's are pretty nice too....

Bought new in 2004 as a "Big D" present to myself.
First big ride was summer 2004 Kansas City to the Mountains and back.
2023...still have it. Thousands of miles across the US. Now live in the Mountains and prepping it for our annual 5 day, 1800 mile group MotoCamp trip.......just can't seem to get rid of it.
