Just got the van back from getting a Van Compass Stage 1 Topo 2.0 kit with replacement Opti-Rate leaf springs. Plus the standard FALKEN WILDPEAK A/T4W LT245/75R16 E tires. Drove it back from Truckee just now to home in SF and it felt great. My needs are to haul my Moto on the back so I went with the leaf springs too.

Tomorrow I'm installing a rear tire carrier because the spare doesn't fit under the van anymore.

Before (it was so overloaded and the suspension was so tired it was almost riding on the bump stops)

After

and.. Rear tire carrier added today

Made it out of the Front Range of CO last Wednesday before Snowmageddon 2024 fully hit (16-20" in Denver/Boulder, and 40"+ in the foothills) on our planned trip to Durango/Purgatory ski area. Van load of my wife, 21yr and 14yr old sons, our Boston, and myself.

We encountered HEAVY snowfall and woefully unprepared vehicles as we made our way slowly westward, but eventually popped out on the western slope where it was just flurries. Slept at the Edwards rest area (just west of Vail), then on to Purgatory Thursday to our Airbnb.

1AM with the trucks in a packed rest area. We have reflectix insulated panels for the pop-top, and an Espar diesel heater - comfy for the 'kids' up top.

Good sign humor at the rest area. lol

Friday AM we were greeted with a fresh dump. ~12-14" at the cabin (18+" on the ski hill! )

Some of the best riding I've had for a couple years! Luck was on our side this trip 🍀

So glad to have studded snows for events like this (Hakka LT3's)!

Bought this a week ago, 2007 Furd E150 4.6L auto with 99,XXX miles in great running condition. Has some body issues that need to be repaired. After that, I'm going to start building it into a minimalist camper van. i want to be able to remove the camping interior so I can work out of it and haul with it. I have a 2005 GMC C5500 but it is expensive to use when I can get away with a smaller vehicle. I also have a 2001 Furd Ranger stepside with 2.5l and auto for the really light stuff.

I have a couple of threads, here, started on the van.

Recently made the switch from a 100 series Land Cruiser and SoCal Teardrops trailer to the Sprinter. It was a new Revel that we quickly modded (suspension, wheels and rear storage and tire carrier)…. photos are from a trip last month through Colorado and Utah

Great spot! Where about were you ? Also I would love to begin some sort of a thread or the like to share “van friendly” trails and camp spots if that interests anyone. Or maybe there is already a site ?

This is off Bowman Lake Road (where it's still paved) and you head up towards Carr-Feeley Lake Campground. There is a small network of dirt roads that go here and to Lindsay Lake campground. Some of the roads are more 'van friendly' than others so that's why I scouted on my 300 first. Folks bring their horse trailers, and RV's in here and wild camp. There are a lot of dispersed spots to find someplace to camp.
