Pictures of ham installs?

My simple install....

Here's my old Kenwood 2m mobile installed in my 1999 4runner. Went in pretty easy, only tricky part was the wiring.

I screwed the mounting plate directly to the transmission tunnel using self-tapping screws right through the carpet and it held just fine.

I plan on doing a similar install on my 4th gen (2007) except that since the console is higher on the 4th gen, I can attach the mounting plate to the console rather than having to screw it into the transmission tunnel sheet metal.

I think I am going to integrate mine into the headliner.. I was hoping someone else had tried that..

I put the body of the radio on the roof of my FJC and the head unit on the dash; not "integrated" but it is out-of-the-way and easy to hear:

Its not a 4Runner but hopefully it gives you some ideas.

I have both a Yaesu FT7800R and a Uniden CB on this truck. Having the Ham radio is great, but not if everyone else has only CB so I just use both. I am really picky about clean installs so I took my time with figuring out the best place to put everything.

The Yaesu has the remote kit, which allowed me to mount the actual radio under the passenger seat. The speaker for it is mounted to the bottom of the CB radio. I used to go without the external speaker but it was hard to hear the muffled audio from under the seat.

For antennas I have two NMO mounts on the roof. For daily use I have a short Larsen dual band antenna and leave the CB mount capped. The picture with both antennas is how I setup for trips. Its a Larsen NMO2/70 and a Browning CB antenna (I now have the matching black Larsen CB). While I cringed about the prospect of drilling into the roof at first, I realized that it is hands down the most professional, clean, waterproof, and best looking way to go. The performance of the antennas on the roof is fantastic. Having a good ground plane is invaluable for antenna performance.

I hope this helps!

Mine is nothing special but here goes: Icom F-5021 (2 meter), with external speaker. Hard wired to the battery (both + and -) using 10 gauge wire. On this rig I run a Larson NMO mount 5/8 wave whip mounted to the fender. I'd put it on the roof rack but I like being able to get in my garage.

Keep them coming please :coffeedrink:

I'm considering the Yaesu FT-2900R vs the FT7900R, one of the major differences is the detach faceplate.. so seeing other rigs is helping very much.
