I have learned over the years never to say the "D" word with a project vehicle:victory:

Hope the work situation works out for you. I have a friend the same as your boss though, I cough him complaining about the economic down turn. He had lost $500K that month compared to the year before......reminded him that he still cleared more than most people (my self included) make in there entire careers. Kind of makes me sick thinking about it.........I also got stuck with the tab for dinner that night too :Wow1:

Update time! We have moved backup into the mountains and to celebrate I bought some Procomp X-Terrains in 315 style. They are a bit noisier than the Terra-Crapplers that I had before, but man they are gonna work waaay mo betta in most situations I get into...

I would love to go do some exploring soon. I have to sell my 285 Terras to pay for front end rebuild parts and then I think it is good to go. I will do the PHH as well. If you get up towards Squamish/Whistler/Pemberton, let me know...

After a week of driving on the 315s and stock gears I fail to understand all the talk about regearing. I live in the mountains (not at 10,000' like you colorads, so you guys go ahead and regear), and I am totally happy with the drive. I always wonder about people who complain there is a lack of power in the 80s. No wonder Toyota won't pay the tariffs to bring diesels into America. Everyone wants Ferrari acceleration out of their off-roaders. Slow down and smell the saguaros!:costumed-smiley-007

Yeah I agree, I went from stock tires to 315's and was exspecting a big loss in performance. I have not noticed much really, it will still fly up mountain passes if I want it too and around town and of the trail its great.

I did notice a increase in fuel consumption of 2l/100kms but that is to be expected.

Driving around the past few days I have heard the typical "skreeeee skreeeeee ping clang skreee" of u-joint self-destruction... I pulled the rear shaft out last night and drove it around a bit in"front wheel drive". No more noise. The u-joints don't seem too bad, but I am going to change them while it is out just 'cause. It definately drives funny without the rear shaft!

The driveshaft is done and squeeks-be-gone! Full of ambition after my drivetrain repair, I decided to tackle the infamous "pesky heater hose"! It was in fact, well, pesky! I did the bypass and got rid of the metal tube. That turned out to be the hardest part... getting rid of the tube! It just didn't want to go! Once I got the tube out of the way it went quick. I sleeved the 5/8 hose with 1" to keep it from rubbing on the steering shaft. Now I only have to paint it... and do the birfields... and fab a spare tire rack for the rear cargo area and... and... and...:Mechanic:

What exactly does that mean to those of us who speak in MPGs? I never have bothered to figure out the whole liters/100km thing. I just did a six hour drive over the Duffy and Coqiuhalla and got 15.04 mpg (corrected for tires) with 35s and stock gears. No fancy oils or potions. I am fine with that.
For those that don't know BC, the Duffy Lake Rd and Coquihalla are two looooong(60 mile), and high (snow in july) mtn passes.

That's funny I just did the Duffy lake road this weekend. From Langley to Lillooet (over the Duffy) including a side trip to the Hurley pass to see if its open(not). I got 15.8MPG on the tank not accounting for the 14% change in tires. We were also loaded for camping and back country exploring. My drop in millage was not as much as I figured, before tires I had a best tank of 17.98MPG if I account for tire size change I'm not far off that still.

We took the FSR from Lillooet to Boston Bar back south along the west side of the Fraser that is a very interesting trail. We want to go north on the West Pavilion road next towards Quisnel next time. By the time I'm done I would like to map out a north south all gravel route across BC. Need to try and tire it into the Washington state Border to Oregon trail I saw talked about a few years ago. I think that one links into the Oregon trail as well.
