Pneumatic clutch assistance.

I had a few clutch pressure pipe issues, no way could I do clutchless changes on my Unimog, I had no problem in a Samel 50 in the army, maybe I lost the technique or the box on the MB is different. My clutch pedal has a spring assist built in, once you get it a small way down, it pulls the pedal to the floor.

Agreed. It would be near impossible on my gearbox in the conditions I drive in ie steep inclines up and down and high altitude.

Sometimes on a hill start you have done 3 gear changes before you have reached 15kmph. Not appropriate

Any way this is the sort of kit I am considering .

Any thoughts

Hi, Neil:

See that susceptibilities are very light around here. That's the current tendency, I guess.

Anyway, I understand why you want to change the rocky clutch. I have removed the clutch assistance servo valve with which I got my truck, especially because it was not in the original design, it was really ugly, and the one who installed it must have been drunk when doing it. But now that I have to maneuver the truck in tight spaces I get cramps on my left leg working with the hydraulic clutch.

I do not think it is a great problem to install a servo valve like the one the Merkabah had, as you can see in the pictures. Yes... its is still ugly, but I am sure with your skills you will make it fit perfectly, and you would not see it under the Box. Servo valves like the one depicted are readily available elsewhere. Don't need to be quite special. The TGA system shown in your reference seems pretty complicated to me.

Enjoy the rides, trully, and say hello to Pat.

Hi Pairoa. Thanks for the info and the pictures. My knee is hanging on so this is a slow burn project , the sort you think about for a year or so.

Since leaving your place 28 months ago we have only made it to Quito and we are getting slower. Colombia next week.

Glad to see your project is getting on.

Best wishes and have a great Xmas

Hi Neil.

Sorry for the slow reply. Here's our clutch cylinder which has inbuilt air assist.... Pic 1.

And pic 2. It's mounted on the LH side of the gearbox, and has a constant air supply (which I believe to be on the same circuit as the seat... I.E Warning light goes out but clutch remains heavy.... Air continues to build and as the seat lifts, the clutch becomes light and the PTO will then engage and disengage).

If it looks like it'll fit yours, PM me and I'll send you our chassis number. You'd be able to order a new one on the back of that.. :)
