I think I need a bigger truck!
Hello Mules, thanks for the post reply. No worries on the strut specs... they are indeed buried in this thread somewhere...heh, even I cant recall where?Incredible build and sorry for asking if you've already posted an answer, but what size pneumatic struts and weight? Also how are they working out? I need a bit of advice on my build. I need to decide whether to clam shell hinge (easier) or full push up like yours (more room). Any chance you could post a video of it opening? Thanks!
I ordered them custom from a shop here in Canada, but I am sure these will be available just about anywhere these are sold for commercial use. The company I used is called LS Technologies (LSTECHNOLOGIES.CA) and they were awesome to deal with. Their part numbers and sizes are noted below. For my setup I have a 21" tent wall (from top tub to underside of ceiling) so I needed 21+ of lift. The engineering part of this was a bunch (lots) of measuring and re-measuring, and it works amazingly well!
4 x B10-475-1030-225N ( 40.5 " C to C / 50 lb force ) $63.13 CAD each
4 x BKT-04B-BLACK $4.83 each
4 x BKT-12A BLACK $4.25 each
Check out their site and you can probably cross reference their sizes and specs and order something closer to you. I was unable to find anything suitable on EvilBay or Amazon.
As to your second point, I could post a video of it opening, and will if it ever stops raining and I can get it out of the shed. lol I guess I could try one in the shed, but it is pretty close in there. If I were to do this again (and I never ever ever will) I would do a clamshell and leverage hinges similar to the wedge style James Baroud RTT's or the Mission Overland trailers. Heck, I would probably straight up steal the Mission Overland design... Mark over there makes an AMAZING product.

Video here shows the roof lift system () @ 58 seconds.
Reason for clamshell over full lift = Simpler for pretty much everything, sheds rain and snow better, easier to engineer the lift and likely a lot more stable when up. Having said that my lift system is SUPER stable and I can rock the whole truck by pushing on the roof edge, so it worked out well.
Now, if I can just get the fabric installed I can go camping. heh
