Portable A/C Unit....Gauging Interest

I got a unit from Scotia and need to say awesome guy and very knowledgeable. I was going to do the simple stick the hoses in the tent but decided to go a different way. I used all 4” drainage pipes, 4 90 degree elbows and two t’s. Also used 4 of the everlast dryer duct to wall connectors.
I still need to get a way to hang the ac unit but now both are nice and cold and the install was pretty easy.

if the pvc will stay then build a box around it and fill with expanding foam or fiberglass. Other wise put some cut in half up 6" pvc around it to form a surrounding case shoot foam inside to insulate the pvc. Then two socks of plastic and fiberglass between to insulate the corrugated pipe and your set.

Good idea but going to leave it removable. I wanted it so it can be removed.

any pics of the inside of the xl tent? what did you do with the mattress, as it completely covers the floor base?
looks nice and neat from outside.

Going to trim the mattress and get someone that can sow to stick it back up. Did not take any inside pics but both fitting stick inside the tent about 2” from floor. Will have a 45 degree elbow to slip over cold side to aim air towards middle of tent.

Still working on a portable mount for the ac so just tie wrapped it to get a vision on what I wanted to do. 86 out and humid as can be ( welcome to Houston) and vent temp is 60 on analog and 59 on my digital meter. Pics of how the vents stick in through floor and my plan on the 45 degree elbow so you can direct air flow a little.

I skimmed through this thread so I may have missed someone mentioning it already- it probably doesn't matter for this type application with short runs but those corrugated ducts are horrible as far as creating turbulant air flow. You'll get much smoother air flow, and thus more air flow delivered with less work (more efficiency from the unit) , through smooth ducts. Insulating the ducts will help as well and you need to make sure the radiators on the A/C units can easily vent heat and that the unit isn't sucking in the heated air coming off the unit. Shade the A/C to help reduce load on it. but make sure air can freely circulate around it. Make sure you clean the dust out of the unit to maintain efficiency; I'd make a cover for it to use while traveling.

Replacing the corrugated tube under VW buses with a smooth insulated tube is one of the main secrets to having actual heat and defrost in them. Yeah I know, probably not worth it since the A/C is just dumping into a tent but it may help some folks in the desert.

The corrugated ducting is used in a portable application as it can go from a collapsed lenght of 18" to and extended length of 5ft. You are correct that smoother duct will yield a better laminar flow which would be a more permanent solution and more efficient.
This also applies to insulted ducting...yes insulted ducting is more efficient but again suited for a more permanent location. Keep in mind that the space being cooled has walls not much thicker than bed sheeting.
The unit recirculates the supply air and it never mixes with hot condenser air. The two ducts are for the evap side of the unit.

Great points but for what I’m using it I think this will work well. This is more of an idea that other can adapt to their needs. Just don’t want to sweat all night long while fishing at the beach, and did not want to tape hoses through openings.

Been playing around by adding a boat engine compartment blower on the intake side and air flow increased dramatically. 4” Atwood blower tightly fits on the damper tube. Showed a 1 degree drop in temp but way more air flow. Fan gets pretty quiet once you hook the hose up.
