Possible long travel air bags and managable ride?

Yes you have it right KYB MonoMax shocks, for the value they are not bad. Also it's fairly rare to see commodity items like shocks made in Japan anymore.

Do you have any experience with Sumo?

I have no experience with them, have been thinking about the possibility of running them in the front to help with the load.

Had Timbren SES on a F250, and those seem to be more suited for a pavement going work truck.

Yes, I have the heavy load model on the rear for my F250 rig and have been very pleased:
From everything I have read, they seem to be a step up from what Timbrens would offer (less glorified bumpstops and more true helper springs)

LOL, You will appreciate this then. 2000 Baja 1K just south of Visciano. I ripped a bag on the Dodge chase truck I was driving. Spent another week and 1800 miles going down and back. Best and worst trip ever. Fixing that truck is when I started making My own mounts with floating bottoms.
Yeah, the shop I use installed a Carli 2.5 pintop system on an F-350 Supercrew. The guy couldn't be talked out of Carli's leafs. He insisted and supplied Firestone airbags to elevate the load. The engine is a V-10. The body had a Snugtop cab hi shell with a contractor rack extending over the cab. It had an RTT monted on top. Mileage read 8.5 or something on the dash. We took it for a ride on the local mini-course and it road great. Anyway the owner was in Gonzaga Bay and punctured a bag. He had to deflate the other bag and drove home "uphill" all the way back. The RTT flapped him to death with the winds down there too. Sumo Springs might be an alternative also.

Sorry I did not get a chance to drive it with a load till the truck went in for surgery again. I'm still struggling to locate a set of decent shocks for it, and a few other parts to make it all good again. Will provide an update when its done, and before swapping the leaf springs over.

Today I did see something interesting, it was a White 4th gen ram truck with rolling lobe Firestone and some King shock reservoirs going to the bags, at first I saw the huge king cylinders and then looked at the shock and they were some small foxes trying to figure out what was going on, then I realized they were for to the bags, not too sure if they used air or nitrogen for that setup.

Curious if anyone has messed with mounting LR3 rear air struts on a full-size pickup. They have more than enough travel and if you mounted them in place of the rear shocks with custom upper mounts I’d think you could get away with a very light spring pack.

Buddha.

Finally in expo white.

Are you talking about airbag “ping” tanks?

I have the Sumo springs on my Chevy 2500 gasser. I tow a 30’ 10,000lb travel trailer. I think they’re rated at 1,500 pounds and keep the rear of the truck about an inch higher with the load.I have not noticed any difference in ride, loaded or not. They’re about 1/4” away from the bump stops unloaded.
I don’t off-road but I think they’d be fine.
