TBH I didn't know there was a rugged version. There definitely wasn't 6 years ago when we got ours.

It seems it would be pretty hard to make this offroad capable. You could mod to give some more overall clearance I suppose, but there's not much you can do about things like the ridiculous departure angle. And while the build quality is excellent, I'd be worried that any meaningful off roading could wreak havoc on the elaborate mechanism for raising and lowering the roof. I have visions of something getting out of alignment or torquing funny, and blowing out a whole lot of tempered glass!

My bad the more rugged model is the fixed roof one.

Just returned from a four month boondocking trip. A good bit of the time was spent seeking high altitude to give some relief from the heat. Spent a month in Kaibab in the area of Jacob Lake at 8,700' and a few more weeks at Apache-Sitgreaves NF just outside of the Mount Baldy Wilderness at 9,200'. Nice to be back at my basecamp to do some serious cleaning and maintenance but I miss being on the road. Hopefully I'll be traveling again in a few weeks.

My home base is a Bigfoot 25 but my light travel rig is a 17' Casita towed by a 2019 Nissan Frontier KC V6 4WD. That combo is turning out to be a very suitable alternative to my other set up.

This looks to be one of the North Rim campsites.
