Just trying to keep the fauna out the grill. Got a pretty good deal locally, apparently they are discontinuing this one. Not too austentatious. It does have a rather large hole where the winch goes though. I would love to find a box that would fit in there, to keep a tow strap, chains, come along etc...

lovin the setup. key off to camping=1minute. camping to rolling=10 min. the stock rubi is very impressive offroad and on. i think im gonna go with an aev lift and bigger meats but so far i am leary of mods in general due to driveshaft/exhaust probs. nuthin like stock for reliability!!

If you do the right mods you can have the best of both worlds, great on road driving and excellent off road articulation. Pick your suspension and components carefully.

Even with 35s I started finding a bunch of weak spots, but I couldnt stand the stock rubicon and it wouldn't work well on rutted out muddy trails around here anyway. Damn I need to get out to Utah more, driven past canyonlands a couple times in other vehicles (will be again next month) but never with spare time or a capable vehicle.

After a year of owning the JK, I finally had the funds to start the serious upgrades this summer. First install was the ARB Bull Bar, then the AEV 2.5 XT lift with drop brackets. This week I finally decided the original tires needed to be replaced, so on went the 35s on 17" rims (actually measure 33.6" under the rig). Opted for A/Ts as it's a DD at the moment, and I plan to make a few trips over the passes to go skiing this winter. Next mod will be to sleeve and gusset the D30 - any suggestions for solid fab shops in the Eugene, OR area?

here's a couple of pics of my new to me wagoneer.

she is a 1986 Wagoneer
rebuilt AMC 360
Dana 44 high pinion Ford front axle
Dana 60 Ford rear
1 ton 8 lug axles
409 gears
rebuilt 727 tranny
36" military tires

and yes the tires are horrible. definitly going to 35" mickey thompson mtz. much better road manners.

Love seeing photos from Silver Lake (grew up in Fremont and spent summers in Pentwater/Ludington area). Used to go on the MacWoods rides when I was a kid, then in my XJ once I had my own 4x4. I also used to kiteboard at the lighthouse every chance I got, love that area!

That Wagoneer looks great BTW!

Thanks! It's a total mutt, with 2A and 3A parts and a Studebaker 185ci (3.0L) straight six engine. The passenger side toolbox has been replaced with a second 10-gallon fuel tank, and a toggle on the dash allows me to choose which tank it feeds from. Now that it's in running shape (having been rebuilt from end to end), I can start playing with some of the modifications I've had in mind sinc eI first got it as a project. I want to add a fresh water tank inside one of the rear body corners, and possible a small propane tank in the other. I have a glove box to install to hold an iPad or other tablet for a GPS system, and I'll be adding an inverter for a plug-in power source.

Oh, and a pintle mount for a Browning just for kicks. :)

My ultimate goal is to be able to take it to a place like Moab or Canyon de Chelly for a week or so at a time, camping out of it and cruising around back trails (minus the gun, though). My grandfather and a friend did something pretty similar with a 2A in Mexico for a month or more back in the 50s.

yeah it is beautiful up there. Sadly they have closed most of the trails and a huge part of the dunes. But definitly trying to enjoy what we have while we have it.
