Why the 40's if you're not rock crawling. I've done just about every tough trail there is on 35's with ease.

I would watch those 513's and the stock axles very closely. A real Dana 44 can handle up 35's no problem. 37's push the limit. The rubicon 44 axles aren't as strong. With all the money you have in that rig you should consider upgrading to support the 40's the may leave you stranded

I got a great deal on new old style MTR 40s; upgraded from 37s. The types of trails we do border on extreme trail to mild crawling. 35s don't easily get through. A large portion of our group have landed on 37s and 38s by now; or plans to do so soon. I have found you can do more damage bumping and grinding with smaller tires than simple crawling over with larger tires. I have no concerns with the Dana 44 and the way I wheel it; very very smart. It will go anywhere I decide to take it with confidence; been doing so for over a year and 15K miles just on the 40s. I'm good. 60s are for crawlers and mudders. I am neither of those.

The 5.13 comment makes no sense. 5.13s are stronger than 5.38s; the reason I went 5.13.

^^good input there, i have people suggest i so crazy axle swaps, huge lifts, massive tires all the time, but for what i do, my jeep is perfect and i have yet to be stuck or held up from going where i want to go with it, and its only stock! cant wait till i have 3.5" of lift 31s and later on when im living in the mountains a set of tracks for the snow unstoppable with a little finesse behind the wheel.

I agree with smart wheeling. You have to be a better driver and learn how to pick a line with smaller tires. IMHO 40's are for buggies and full size trucks. It takes the challenge out of driving a jeep on the trail. I had 37's and dropped down to 35's to be challenged again. 538 or 513 don't matter. A real Dana 44 can't handle that size tire certainly not a hybrid rubicon 44. You'll eventually upgrade or brake something. Rubicon axles aren't the same and I've seen them chatter on the trail and grenade. Internally they are smaller diameter, look into it. I bet yours are already twisted at the splines.

Keys points are: wheel to your capabilities and build level. Be smart to get home each time. If you wheel 3+ hours from the closest pavement and or cell signal, be confident. I am very.

The idea that dropping to 35s from 37s to make things more challenging is interesting. We should just agree to disagree. Maybe more difficult trail is in order.

I have pushed my rig hard enough on the 40s where smaller tires have been winched, drug through. My winch has never been used for my rig.

And lastly, If I twist splines on RCVs, I'M DOING IT WRONG. My components are in top shape.

The thin tube is the only issue with the new 44s. That is why they get sleeved, gusseted, trussed and RCVs (just for extra guarantee). A wider axle and general OEM cheapness made it this way.

That is far more productive than being a TOOL; giving "2 cents" taxed or flaming someone's build, when you don't even own the same model JEEP. I stopped posting on Pirate to get away from trolls; guess they are everywhere on the forums.
