Went exploring in the smoky mountains with a friend. Did over 70miles of off-road trails there. All legal. Checked the route before hand.

Hi Carts, do you have any gopro edits or anything from your adventures?
Love the Perentie !!

Hi Greeni
I apologise I am a stills kind of guy so no gopro available. I have added some pictures for you!
I wondered what someone from the UK wanted to see so I started with the rig
We have a 300TDI that you will see in these images. She has Dobson springs and a 2 inch lift with Bilstein shocks. She has a true track LSD, bar work as you can see and we have played with how to get the gear on and off a few time, we have settled on the latest. I have rebuilt her last year including the turbo, had the intercooler upgraded, put a mechanical air compressor on the old girl as well. The long hot drives through the soft sand was making her work a bit so we put an external oil cooler on just to let her keep a bit cool. The old girl is our life line and we have added some good coms just to be sure.

Then I thought people from the UK love our beaches so a couple of hours down the road is a great white sand beach, you can get away and have a play, when you come back you are faced with a long hall up from the beach and an even longer drive across the sand dunes, my recommendation is a good set of sunglasses is worth the investment. However the great stop off point by the lake to wash the salt off is really refreshing.

Then I thought no! what they want to see is the uniquely Australian things like the Dog proof fence, or the old mining truck that’s stuck a long way from no ware.

It was then pointed out that everyone loves a laugh and I don’t mind someone from the old country, well a few generations ago laughing at me, I live in one of the best places on earth and they sent us criminals here. To help the laughter I have added a few photos of us doing a bit of recovery work

local road users WA

Someone else suggested that it’s all way good to meet the locals so the road users you may come across on a bit of a drive out and about in Western Australia are sometime road hogs, well cows or even camels

road sign and rock

Its not all sunshine and beaches, well it is sunshine it gets hot and finding your way in 45 deg C can sometime be made hard by the road signs particularly when you are looking for a hanging rock, that is just a rock amongst a lot of red sand dunes. Oh well lucky I have a disco!

out and about in WA

When you get out and about in WA it’s a bit hard to explain why so many die in the desert here. It is still a little different from Europe as I am sure most people are aware. Sometimes just having enough fuel is a task in its self here we had 11 X 20 litre jerry cans just to get out and about that ones you can see plus 2 on the disco and 4 on the front of the camper. Luckily you can always find some shade and a well made road

roads rivers and heaven

Speaking of roads when you are out and about some times the best roads are rivers, particularly when you are trying to tread lightly and sometimes deserts can surprise you with water holes from heaven

Why WA?

As a scientist for a major mining company I have traveled the world and like most of my Australian brothers suffer from the wander lust, But what brings me back is simply I live and work in Western Australia and she always seems to have another track to follow and another sun set to view and I own a few discos!
I hope that this satisfied the picture request. Enjoy
regards

CARTS, thanks very much for the pics and stories!! Fab stuff. I watch a few youtube edits (it beats tv) and there's a guy called Ronny Dahl who is in WA who puts edits up most weeks.
I love that you can go to these wonderful places and have so much terrain to drive over. England is terrible for us 4wd guys, there's very few places to go and even where you can go, you are scowled at by walkers. A lot of the 'lanes' are being closed and access to the countryside is getting less and less.
Thanks again for your photos.
