hey all,

first time poster, been reading for awhile.

been camping for about 2 years and reading all the overlanding info is addicting...so i've built a very modest but function for my needs set up and wanted to share.

it's for softroading and glamping so far with the frequent trip to the beach or park with my four legged co-pilot.

start with a clean slate in my Honda Element by removing the seats.

built wire basket and platform support

added a plywood/piano hinge bed support

can be positioned in a lounging position for chillin at the beach or park

made and sewed foam bed cushion

front is supported via paracord (it's slightly slanted so that it lays flat with a little body weight)

can access baskets from the front and back

also, it's all modular and can be used like legos.

I use this set up while camping during the day and then inside to sleep

I also sewed curtains for privacy during car camping.

Brilliant! That's very similar to what I have in mind, but you've made it a few steps simpler, with the bonus of having it easily removable.

Mine's coming to an end at the moment. I have a permanent bed and improved storage without losing much space. As the storage has improved, I can live with losing a little space.

The kitchen slides out from underneath the unit, as does a table on the other side.

Barbecue makes a perfect firepit for sitting around on these cold evening while taking a beer. Obviously you always need something to get those beers open.

Now looking at a full length roofrack that will accommodate a rear mounted awning and roof tent.

Very effective setup, the slide out bed frame Is clever .

Your BBQ rear wheel is certainly different.

The fridge lid clears by about 3 inches, I measured 10 times and cut once hah.

I'm 6'4" so I can see:/reach into the fridge, my girlfriend who is 5'4 has a harder time with that, I built her a step stool haha.

Bought a discovery 3 (LR3) last year and have since been working on that as my project vehicle. After following this thread for a while I went ahead and built some drawers, with plans to extend them as a sleeping platform. As a commuter, I like having easy storage and keeping things in the truck safer from potential theft.

Used 3/4" plywood, its pretty heavy so I sometimes wonder if I should have used 1/2". Very sturdy however. I had simple drawer pulls on them during a test period and then replaced them with truck toolbox latches, which added complexity to the build but made them a whole lot nicer.

Cost was ~$300 USD, I changed my mind a lot over the several weekends it took to build, so costs ballooned as we wasted some materials and made mistakes. Cost could have been ~$200 USD.

Dimensions:
39" long
41" wide
top panel follows interior cabinet contours (48" at widest point)
11" deep (sits level with lower part of tailgate

Materials:
2 sheets of 3/4" plywood
galvanized brackets x8 (various shapes)
wood screws
wood glue
22" basic ball bearing slider sets (nothing crazy yet, maybe later...) x2
Tensioners (guide wire tensioner) x4
4 tiny shackles and brackets to make attachment points in drawers for bolt down
Truck toolbox latches x2
Skinny bolts and nuts (no recollection on size)
