The seasoned Baja guys use a 10 x 10(or larger) canopy sold at the swap meet here in San Diego or elsewhere. The poles can be cut in half and coupled together when used. The fabric can be bought in the silver reflective variety. Two 6" sewer pipes holds the poles and a milk crate stores all the bungies, joints, couplers and fabric. Get one with the gable so water will run off. It's freestanding with tie downs. Home Depot has the sewer pipes and giant nails for stakes. Sewer pipes will attach to opposite sides of your rack. Done for maybe $125. Incidentally, buy some cleanout connectors for the end caps. Baja Proven.:sombrero:

That is about the same price as the Bus Depot version, a touch more, and it sounds like it takes up a lot more space in the vehicle than does the BD awning.

Just a thought.

We sold our 8 foot ARB and bought a used 6 foot Hannibal.

Pro's : obviously, no poles. We can move the rig and deploy pretty dang fast. Quality is top notch.

Cons: With a breeze, It wants to bend the side rails on our INTI because the inti is channeled and not boxed. It's not as wide as i'd like, 8 foot was better. We have to huddle for shade now.

Still happy, but would probably rather have a Fiamma 8 footer. Fiamma is still top dog in my eyes.

Yeah, this is for the fullsized rig guys I guess where space is not too much of a concern. I attached my sewer storage tubes to either side of my shell on the rack and the milk crate didn't faze the back of an 8' bed. They are freestanding and take all Baja can lash out save a hurricane. The swap meet special is stupid strong compared to the picture in the Bus Depot ad. The Gable style roof sheds water really well also. Whatever product you go with, you've gotta get out of that sun.

Makes enough sense I guess.

Seems like the diesel vs propane argument, both have merrit and both have those who would never go the other way.

I really like that they use the tent poll type poles to raise the roof. Anyhow, to each thier own.

Dave why would you want a Fiamma? They seem very heavy and bulky. Not to mention it would not really fit your truck would it? Not without sticking pretty far forward of the windsheild. would that not concern you for a variety of reasons?

I already posted in post # 21 here, but I have a new rack setup now from BajaRack, and the awning mounts differently than before.

My old mounts which were made to mount this style of awning to Yakima or Thule bars will up for sale later in the classifieds.

Yes, it is a new product that we asked BajaRack last year to make for us over on fjcrusierforums.com for Maggiolina/Columbus owners.

I think I have the second rack made, the first one was on their rig which you can see in a few of the pics in my link.

Not listed on their site yet, but it is labeled the "MG" for Maggiolina.
Perfect fit for these hardshell tents.

Any rig they currently make a rack for such as FJ Cruisers, Land Cruisers, and Jeeps, they should be able to make one like mine too.

Brian, actually Fiamma's are very light. You can install one on your rack with one hand. Not anymore bulky than a roll up bag sort.. they actually come locked inside their own clamshell case so they'd be less bulky. Maybe your thinking the large 10 foot they put on the Sportsmobiles? I was thinking F35 Pro.

The break in trip for the Fiamma 45. Works great. Quick to deploy and retract, which was the primary reason I bought this one. And it held up great...even to my abuse! Thanks M&M!
