Post your fireworks shots

There's a ton of tutorials online from simple to complete step by step breakdowns for beginners. Fireworks are really easy to shoot though, you shouldn't have too much difficulty getting some half decent shots. The only thing you'll really need is a tripod and some timing with the shutter release. For your standard fireworks shots start with a low ISO, a medium aperture, 2-3 second exposure, manually focus your lens, but most importantly, have fun.

Took these from my roof last night. It's a mix from 3 different displays around the neighborhood.

These were all taken with about a 4 second exposure at F8. They are OK but I think next year I'll try to reduce the exposure to 2-3 seconds and maybe F11 to help crisp up the details.

Awesome shots guys!

Those shots from the beach are pretty cool with the ghostly images of the people in the foreground!

I pretty much got skunked due to being too far away and all my shots only look like a soft glow on the horizon. better luck next year

OK I fess up. My fireworks shots are jacked. :elkgrin:

All the squiggly trails are due to the fact I was shooting from over a mile away and it was windy on my roof. I was using my 70-200 zoomed out to 200MM with IS turned off since it was on a tripod for most of the shots and even though I was using a tripod and remote shutter release the wind injected the obvious vibrations.

Two bonuses from this experience are:

1. Get closer to the the display so you don't need a telephoto and ensure you have a rock solid tripod base.

2. The squiggly trails at least added an interesting effect that turned out cool in some shots. :sombrero:

I am not happy with mine either. I was working at an event so I knew I didn't really have a chance to pick out a good spot. Ended up only taking a long lens and shooting handheld.

A little different than the normal shots-

Way out of focus but I like it!

We were sitting on the end of our dock watching the fireworks show, and like I said, I was too far away to get anything good from where the big show was in Downtown Cedar Key

We watched a neighbor walk out onto the end of their dock to light something, so I spun the tripod around and snapped this one explosion.

I like where you're going Trevor, the shot on the right-top row looks like a flower or sea anemonie.

I left the Nikon home as I don't have a tri-pod right now and I knew I wouldn't be able to get a good image. I'm headed to Disney later this month so I'll be able to try some different techniques while I am there and have the benefit of a fireworks show every night.

You got some nice shots Aaron - I ended up shooting with a point and shoot that night because in the mix of a busy day my camera got left behind at the house. No idea how they came out because it was a friends camera. Definitely not going to Tempe Town Lake again unless I can find a far off place to shoot from.

I'm the designated pyromaniac for our cul-de-sac fireworks show, so I spend my 4th trying not to blow off my hands. That said, I had my blackberry with me (yes, crappy cell phone camera). This is a horrible shot, but like they say your best camera is the one you have on you I'm amazed I was able to get the timing right, a little blurry...not horrible after 6 hrs of beverage intake

Taken in the middle of a 'round' of fireworks...flaming bees, fountains, roman candles, topped off w/10 mortar rounds...this year was a small show and it still lasted 4 hours
