Post your HDR pics!

Tom that's certainly a different perspective on that Lighthouse- with the sun being where it is you have to be out on the water for that shot, and you lined up the breakwater to be right behind the lighthouse. It looked familiar, but I couldn't place it :)

Joash- I like the composition of this shot but honestly hate the HDR feel of it. There is all kind of artifacts and banding in the sky and the foreground is over done as well as flat.

What program did you use for the HDR?
What processing did you do beyond the HDR software?

I think with simply changing your post process this shot has potential to be a fantastic shot.

I agree completely Aaron- the regularly processed shot is MUCH more to my liking, and style. I think I posted it a while back- I'll dig it up.

This makes me cringe as well.

I just like to see what happens when I intentionally turn it up to 11 every once in a while, and push every single distortion pedal :)
(In this case the meat grinder of choice was Photomatix with the much maligned "Grunge Setting"- I simply clicked the button, and watched the nightmare unfold) And I see you caught all the annoyances, esp the fan-like banding up top.:sombrero:

As a theoretical excercise- I'm trying to figure out what type of landscape shots would lend themselves to stylized HDR shots- My gut feeling is NONE- but I do feel there is an interesting comic book feel to some shots that have a 2-d quality to begin with, much like this shot.

Clear separate elements. Distinct blocks of color, not much visual depth foreground to background.

These are kind of HDR. The were done with Photomatix but using the fusion process.

I was trying to bring out the shadows under the Karavan porch but not have the clouds overexposed.

I agree that I cannot see too many landscape shots lending themselves to the stylized HDR. I find it interesting and sometimes even appealing when used with vehicles and some architecture.

Now you have me thinking too. Dangerous you are. :sombrero:

Brad this shot is pretty darn good. Only things I see is a little heavy on the blue or cyan channel (top left corner), the trees on the right side could use some more green, and then maybe some adjustments to your mid and black points to get a little more depth out of everything. Great work though and the trailer looks great.

You up for a Page trip this winter? :ylsmoke:

Thanks Aaron.

Yes, Pam and I are heading up to Page on October 22nd to support my son in a Triathlon. Then the next night we plan to drive around Powell and stay one night at Alstrom point.

From there we plan to head up to Zion for a couple days and then back down to Toroweap on the North rim of the Grand Canyon before heading back to Tucson.

I'm hoping it will be great trip for some photo ops. :wings:

I hate to ask this here, but I was just invited to make a trip out to Colorado and Utah to photog a trip. I'm interested in giving HDR photography a go. Anyone have any online resources to help me quickly learn the concepts?

I'm just getting into the whole HDR thing. I don't do it to push it up to 11, but to properly expose sky, background, and foreground. Now, I don't have the expertise to actually combine three photos properly. I've tried and failed with my copy of Photoshop (an old version - pre HDR). However, I've found yohdr.com and use that to initially combine the photos - then I go back and process them a bit more.

Anyways, I took a few during a recent trip and these are the results. I have found that a tripod is absolutely necessary. Also - how do you guys do HDR of moving objects? My camera is pretty fast at bracketing, but I still get motion between the photos even when I hand hold. I can't imagine trying to get water or something else involved in the photo.

I liked the 3Dness of this one (but note the slight double image on the bottom right):

This had to be done in HDR to expose the clouds, puddle, and the white rim properly.

This was my favorite from the trip:

Any thoughts or pointers?
