Recently I took a day trip up to Big Bear Lake in CA. "the rim of the world" is a nice little drive that loops in and out of san bernardino. The 99 montero is in need of a tune up and has 4.27 gears, previously it had 33" tires and was getting around 14mpg mixed (offroading, city and highway) after going to Yokohama Geolander 31's, even with a lot of steep grade climbing between 1000-7000 feet it immediately jumped up to 17-18mpg (including city and off road). After a tune up it will get better. I'll keep it on 31's until I can put 4.90's in. Then I think I'll step to 33's as this truck wont need big tires and the gears will make it nice for group camping trips, hauling all the people and gear.

@montero98ls it wasn't Diablo drop off. I'm actually headed back in a couple weeks and might do fish creek.

This is the one I did.

Heres a couple of pics of mine from our last outing, started the day ghetto fixing a coolant pipe that started leaking on christmas eve, when nowhere that would sell any materials would be open.

Spotted this in town a while back and thought it was lovely, 1990 mk1 2.5 that seemed mostly original

Love those 2 door monteros, great pics!

I have this book. Funny thing is I was doing a road trip and stopped at a market in Bishop, Ca and bought it on a whim. It has been so useful and made so many trips that much cooler.

Just got back from a 2000 mi trip from TX to NC for the holidays (and some wheeling!). Truck did great, didn't miss a beat! I'll get some more pics when I get them off my phone.

Potentially a real dumb question, but how did you do the body lift and keep your front bumper up? Truck looks great!

Thanks! I have the metal to make a new front bumper but didn't have time to do it before the trip. In the meantime I made some spacers out of some DOM to move the bumper up 2" on it's brackets (ie: I kept the OEM brackets the same just spaced the bumper off of them a bit more).
