Hey guys, just picked up a 95 Montero
I installed some 33s on it but still need to adjust the front torsion bars. Any how to's on that?
Yes. On level ground...
(1) Raise the front end up off the ground.
(2) Loosen both nuts on the torsion bar bolt.
(3) Using a wrench (pneumatic preferably), turn the torsion bar bolt (count the number of turns) by at least 10 turns on both sides. IIRC, tightening the bolt lifts the truck but just doublecheck it when you do this.
(4) Drop and check the height is to your liking. If not, tighten or loosen the torsion bar bolt on both sides (again carefully counting the number of turns).
(5) When you get it to the height you want, tighten the lock nuts.
CAUTIONS:
Your vehicle will likely need an alignment afterwards.
Doing this lift reduces the amount of available upwards travel of your front A-Arms which reduces articulation so you really only want to lift it only as much as required to effectively clear your tires.
And one of my other (more photogenic) car:
I prefer the Montero personally, but that's just me. :ylsmoke: heck, I prefer it to my 'photogenic' car (Audi 01 S4 twin turbo v6:Wow1
.
BTW, there's a relatively large group of Montero off roaders in AZ :Wow1: (yeah, kinda hard to believe). If you want, I can put you in contact with them.
