I just flew to SoCal and drove this Gen 2.5 Montero (Pajero NL) 1,300 miles back to Texas. It won't stay stock for long!

It's been 10 weeks and it's already seen quite a few mods. Tomorrow, the ARB Pajero Winch Bumper (3434040) is going on. I tried mounting it already and it needs some modification to the brackets, so I'm taking it to a friend's fabrication shop to knock it out.

Mind if I ask where you got the ARB winch bumper from? I've been wanting to put a winch on my GEN2.

Pretty sure he ordered that one through a buddy of his at 4wheel parts, i cant remember exactly but he got a hook-up on it... Word of caution on the bumper, his bumper didnt fit, like he mentioned, has to take it to a fabricator to make up some brackets. There will be better bumper designs coming out this year, but they likely wont put the winch on the bumper, that's not the place it belongs.

installing a winch is a lot cheaper than that bumper, there's a factory style winch plate on the market, you can get that puppy from ADD. yep, i said factory style, tid bit of info if you didnt know; in other countries they came with PTO winches driven by the T-case, wasnt an option here for many reasons, likely the primary one being left hand drive and shifting parts over got in the way of the pto shaft for the winch.

Thanks for the heads up, found a site in Europe that ships global for an OEM style mount.

Hello everyone,

I've had my Shogun almost 2 years now. It's a 2005 3.2 DID LWB. I bought it on 158,000 miles, it's now on 210,000 miles. I bought it in England and drove it over to Finland, where I live. I run a northern lights chasing company in the very far north of Lapland, around 70°N latitude. We experience down to -40 temps here and it is pretty much below 0°c for 5 months of the year. I wanted an older, more mechanical 4x4 as electronics don't do too well in the cold. This is my second winter with the Shogun and I am utterly impressed with it as a cold climate vehicle. It cold starts in -25 no problem!

Things I have done to it are;

Painted stock alloys black (and got chrome nuts)
Fitted 25mm wheel spacers
Fitted front A-bar and 3 x 80w Lumina Lights (LED) - 8000 lumens, each. 24,000 lumens in total.
Fitted 220v engine block heater and 220v cabin heater
Fitted Nokian LT2 285/75 16 studded tyres.

Since this pic was taken, I've had a full Old Man Emu suspension kit fitted (+40mm lift all round, about 1.5 inches.). The original suspension was so tired and sagging, the OME suspension felt more like a 3 inch lift!

I also have new wheels and tyres on order, considerably bigger than the ones on now. So we'll see how that goes when i get them. I don't off-road per-se. But I do have wilderness plots of land that I need access to, in varying degrees of condition. The distances are so vast and it is so time consuming driving to them, I can't get to a plot of land turn around if it's not accessible. I have to access it. So the reason I want ground clearance and big footprint is for driving unplowed roads, or simply getting over snowdrifts. It's also used for towing everything, from vehicles out of snowbanks (including the Norwegian army!), and my tractor 1300km at the start and end of every winter.

Cheers,
Tony
