My 1989 Montero platform:
It has over 252K on supposedly the original engine. It definitely smokes but only sometimes. Even so, the engine always starts with no problems and idles/runs like butter . It runs straight and drives easily.
I picked it up for $900 a few years ago for the occasional camping trip, hauling stuff around, and safeguarding the other cars when we get snow or ice in the area.
For this reason I didn't need the back seat. Instead, I really wanted to maximize cargo area and also have room for a full size bed during pull-up camping trips.
I am *not* a carpenter, welder, or metal fabricator and this was honestly the most extensive thing I have ever built with my hands.
Because of this I built the platform mainly by trial and error instead of planing and measuring.
It took much longer than it should have, turned out pretty damn rough around the edges, and is probably over-built (inefficient for weight vs function).
That said, it works for what it was intended for and I've gotten a lot more use out of it than I ever would have a back seat.
Yes... I have a bad power steering fluid leak!
Frame only..
Fully deployed mode... front seats all the way forward. Platform area is 53"x76.5"
It's basically just planks with 2x2 guides on the inside
With the front seats back... showing hinged section and last plank below
Room for plenty of power steering fluid ;>
and lots of nooks and such for storage.. never figured out what that cut cable is for..
The back in non-deployed platform mode.
Thanks for looking!
