Hi,
I would like to see some examples of your trailers that have been powder coated, and what you think of it. Did you do the whole thing? Just the tub? Underneath?
I just contacted several shops to get quotes, and they seem reasonable.
Thanks!
I can only give you my experience. If the highway department uses mag chloride for snow/ice conditions powder coating doesn't work very well. I won't ever use it if I can paint the item.
I have powder coating on two vehicles. One has it on the rock rails. The second one has it on the bumpers. After 5 years their rusting heavily.
On painted items if you get a rock chip only that spot will start to rust. With the powder coating the mag chloride works under the coating. Then the coating falls off sometimes 2 to 3 inches in diameter from a chip the size of a pencil. Heavy rust under the power coating.
I guess if you are the kind of person who washes the vehicle every time it gets used it might last better.
I have read that mag chloride is also used in the summer on gravel roads to control the dust.
