Problems with Magellan Crossover

I have had my Magellan Crossover GPS for about five months now. I just drove from NC to CO with no problems whatsoever out of it. Well, today I was driving through Denver (on streets that I had been on before) when the GPS just started freaking out. It told me I was on roads that I was not on. It continuously tried to re-route me in directions I knew were incorrect. Most of the time, it showed me driving on dirt when I was not. Has anyone else had problems like this? What do I do? this thing is only five months old....

Yes, once when navigating downtown Nashville - it wanted me to stay on a cloverleaf, getting on and off the interstate over and over, going nowhere. Shut it off, cursed at it, turned it back on, and it was fine.

Well, at least I am not the only one who made the mistake of buying a Crossover. I never was happy with it. Mind you, I am not a power user and don't rely on GPS for more than convenience but Crossover was crap. It had quite a bit of positive buzz on this forum and a lot of us went out and bought them. Then the honeymoon was over, I haven't heard from a satisfied user in months. Best of luck to those still using them with satisfactory results and sorry to the CL customer who bought mine for $100 less than I paid for it.

Satisfied user here! It has worked almost perfectly for a long time now. Only a few lock ups here and there, but its not a big deal. It has steared me in the right direction in the jungles of L.A. to the dirt roads of Oregon.

Any new roads in the area?

What the ******* I turned mine off several times.... still screwing up. Anybody know how long the warranty on these things is?

Did you press the little black reset button? Not the power button, the little black button on the left side. I did not know about it until TacoDoc showed me while in Death Valley. I tend to not read manuals until after I use something.

The Crossover is a piece.:ar15: That being said, I've kept mine for road navigation because that was the one thing it COULD do. x2 on the reset switch. I got real handy with that when I was still trying to use the topo feature...:sport_box

I'll try the resest switch. I bought this thing because of all the good stuff I heard about it on this forum. Everybody was raving. So far, It's been a piece of crap. this is my first GPS system ever and I am P*ssed

mine worked great for about a year....then it started locking up frequently in outdoor mode. it locks up so much in outdoor mode now, it is practically worthless to me. i can't keep tracks of my trips on it anymore, because i just get big gaps where it locks up. i currently am using my girlfriends Garmin eTrex Legend to keep tracks until I figure out which GPS I am going to replace it with.

however, the street mode has always worked flawlessly for me and continues to do so.

Big waste of money for me. I have had to "hard reset" the thing way more times than I care to remember. I was in the GPS market at the wrong time. When I was collecting data for my next buy, there was a lot of talk on EP about Crossover being the greatest thing since sliced bread. I was so overwhelmed by research info that I figured I would just go with the Crossover...bad choice (for me). I have been nothing but disappointed with Magellian's customer service. Getting in contact with them is no easy task. They have really made me a Garmin man from here on out. I will accept the compromises like proprietary software etc to avoid Magellian.

For those who are having problems, have you installed the update? It's a major update which I did within the first week I owned mine. So far in the 10 months, I have only had the Outdoor mode lock up once and the Street Nav "loose" the street maps display twice.

Overall we have been very happy with ours but not saying it is without it's faults. I don't think the perfec GPS has been built yet but this one works great for our needs.

If anyone needs the update, I believe I still have the file on my home PC. I know Magellan redid some of their website and it's hard to find this update now.

I did install the update. Still freaked out on some roads and showed me out in the fields. Overall it was pretty good on the road but the lack of detailed TOPO map situation irritated me Big Time!

I know this is not the thread for positive posts, but I too have had good luck with ours.
It sees 95% road duty and a little Geocaching from time to time. It functions very well for the GPS in my wife's car. Handy to toss in any rig we need a GPS in a moments notice. Easily operated by novice users.
I have not had it lock up , or need to be reset yet. I did do the update as soon as I removed it from the box.
My primary offroad GPS systems are very different. Laptop based.

I too installed the update before even using mine. 95% of the time, this GPS works great. However, when you are relying on a GPS to navigate you, the 5% of the time it screws up is a big deal. Very irritating. Oh well, for 200 bucks, I guess it's done OK.
