Maybe I'm misunderstanding something but could you mount the camper to the "tray" when needed, then when you dont want the camper on the vehicle remove it and then put the "insert" in place to give you the flatbed? (Rather than flipping the "insert", having that weight and mounting the camper to the "insert"). But maybe I'm misunderstanding something.I just came up with a flatbed design. It would be a big tray mounted to the frame. Inside the tray would be an insert. Put the insert in one way and it's a flatbed. Flip the insert over and it's a tray inside a tray. The camper would sit in a padded recess and be held down by normal spring loaded camper tie downs.

Cool ideas being thrown around. With all the quality issues apparent from so many campers I wonder why more dont build custom, and also why more companies dont offer a modular based system that people could pick and choose their level of customization- i think it would sell very well.
