I've only been on this forum a relatively short time compared to most here, but since this has quickly become my favorite hangout I'm going to document my buildup here on the truck I recently traded for. I'll keep the main post here updated with the truck's stats and current pic, and have another post in the same thread with the trucks progression pics. I acquired the truck when pay cuts at work forced me to sell my 2007 FJ Cruiser. After posting it on several boards and no sale, I edited it to include possible trades for select vehicles plus cash to payoff the balance of my loan on the FJ. When a guy in Texas e-mailed me with this truck and its details, but no pics, I told him everything sounded great - just please tell me its any color but gold. His reply with pic was hilarious, of course it had to be a gold truck. Having it for several months now and changing the rims Feb 09 I now don't mind it as much, although some day it might get re-sprayed either red or ExPo white.

The truck was obtained completely stock in the following configuration:
2001 Ford F250 Crew Cab Short Bed 4x4, 128K miles
7.3L Powerstroke Diesel
Automatic Transmission
XLT Package with all the power goodies
Sterling rear axle, Dana 50 straight front axle, leaf springs

Feb 09 - Added Pro Comp 2.5" front leveling springs, Bilstein shocks
Feb 09 - Added Black 17x9 ARE Vice Rims, (4.5" Backspacing) & BFG 35x12.5R17 MT/km2 tires (Had to trim lower valance to clear the tire at full turn)
Feb 09 - Added open air intake
Feb 09 - First oil change @ 131K - HOLY CRAP, $80 for an oil change! Note to non-diesel owners, they take lots of oil...
Mar 24 - Replace all ball joints on front axle $720
April 4 - Replace front sway bar bushings $123.35 installed - No more front end clunk!
May 17 - Oil change
June 19 - Refinish & blackout front grille
July 4 - Installed custom light bar and 4 Hella 500 series driving lights
Sept 4 - Wildernest camper arrived and installed

I quite like the color myself, with a black additions that would be spot on for me. I really liked the Goldish/Brown that Dodge had for the 01? trucks. I love Grizzly Bears so I have always wanted an earth-toned rig to put a mountain motif around the rockers with a large Grizzly on the end gate. It would work well with gold also.

Awesome, and like other's mentioned, color isn't so bad!

In SoCal there's a good group if you haven't found it: www.socaps.com . I've only been to one of their socials, though time permitting, lurk on their board.

Will do... at least now I have tires worth of hitting the trails & looking forward to a Mojave Road trip hopefully soon after our move this weekend. The next thing I have set aside to install is my new R&M hot water shower I bought 7 or 8 years ago & has been sitting new in my garage awaiting such a vehicle to find its home on. Then I get to research what water tank I can fit underneath. Shopping for designs on a front bumper (would like to go tube for max clearance but it has to handle the 16.5K Warn I intend on installing - suggestions are welcome - if I cant find a desing I like then it will likely be an ARB) and going to talk the boss into making custom side rock sliders here at work. JD; Who did yours?

Front & rear bumpers, shell with interior storage platform & sleeping accomodations, rack on top with roof top tent, hot water shower, onboard welder, generator, onboard water supply, 360* lighting, GPS incab, swapping the front to a 05+ D60 and putting ARB lockers at both ends. Excursion fuel tank installed as an auxillary transfer system, Bushwacker cutouts later with bigger tires & swapping the front suspension at that time to the 05+ front coilover setup

yup, I buy my oil at Costco and you can get filters for a little better deal at rockauto, that can get it down to like 40 or 50 bucks.

The Costco near me has stopped carrying "normal" oil types and only has one or two high end synthetics. I've been buying the bulk 5 quart containers at WalMart. For my Toyota I bought bulk on EBay, 10 factory filters for $40 shipped
