I have nothing constructive to add. Been following your van build. You're like some evil mad scientist genius type bastard. Love the idea and your ingenuity. Keep it up.

Interesting steering setup. I think you may run into some incredible stresses with a tracked vehicle. But I hope it works and I look forward to more updates!

I don`t think so, but we`ll see...

Are you going to have brakes?

I`ll mount a disc brake to the driveshaft that goes to the rear...

Not really here

The stress should be at a minimum if he keeps it in the snow and soft ground. To get a good mental picture of the steering set-up, think of a big front end loader. That kind of steering is called articulation. Since it only applies lateral stress, it should be fine pending most of his travels are on loose terrain. This also has to do with weight and traction of material used on the tracks as well.

A nice, organized shop helps make projects more enjoyable! Is that another neighbor lending a hand?

Yes that`s right. It`s really nice to get that shop together... This time it was my dad who helped me. He is a wood tech, so he knows a lot about this stuff...

Got another motivational thing for the shop:

I'm just wondering why you didn't make the track length match the available tires? Using tires as a track is a good idea. The russians came up with Wheeltracks, much like Mattracks.

They bolted cone shaped plastic knobs to get something to drive the track with, while their drive wheel had holes the cones fit into.

I too worry your bolts with their threads will put a lot of wear and noise on your vehicle. I think your steering is fine.

The battery was completely dead, so we put in another one. It turned over on the first try and ran fine...

We drove a few feet and started parting it out:

Your neighbors look very interested in your activities!

Yes they are. We drank a few beers after we finished working...

Built some track-assembly dummies to get an idea of the size. We can place all the parts where they`re supposed to go, so we can see easily if there`s enough room or not:

The little one had to check things out:
